Here is an alternative to suggest to your teacher to see if it is acceptable. Two contrasting short newspaper articles. One in a Burmese Nationalist paper and another written for the British ex-pat community. That way you could demonstate your grasp of the political issues dealt with by Orwell. You could construct imaginary interviews with the mahout, some locals, eye witnesses and the 'heroic' police officer himself. Sounds like you could have fun.
