It HAS to be Rob Roy, yes it is slow but it is wonderful.

I've never read Walter Scott, and I have wanted too. Yay, this will be a great opportunity. I don't know yet which to vote for. Several sound great. Maybe i'll be like Papaya and sell my vote at the end.

Rob Roy is a nice movie, so reading it won't be very interesting! Go Ivanhoe!
At thunder and tempest, At the world's coldheartedness,
During times of heavy loss And when you're sad
The greatest art on earth Is to seem uncomplicatedly gay.

To get things clear, they have to firstly be very unclear. But if you get them too quickly, you probably got them wrong.

The novel by Scott has nothing to do with the film, different time period (slightly), characters, storyline. The film was based on other Rob Roy legends.

I'm a newbie to Sir Walter Scott as well, and Waverley and The Heart of Mid-Lothian are the only titles that sound somewhat familiar to me, so I go with Waverley.
