The Cossacks is on my reading list already so that would work out quite nicely...although I would love to read The Kreutzer Sonata as a group and see what other people think of it, it's my favorite of Tolstoy's short stories. I think I'll go with Kreutzer Sonata but I'm pretty easy when it comes to Tolstoy, I'll read anything.

Death of Ivan Ilyich, as I've been meaning to read that for a while. I don't have the time for Anna Karenina right now.

Yeah, Anna's a bit on the lengthy side, isn't it.... The Kreutzer Sonata for me.
Oooh, fabulous choices for November. I haven't read Tolstoy in ages. I hope it's one of the shorter works. I'm afraid I don't have time for Anna Karinina, although it is a great novel. I don't remember the Kreutzer Sonata, although I think I've read it. Master and Man and The Death of Ivan Ilych are great short novels. I don't know what to pick yet.

A disclaimer. Some of the works in the poll are short (less than 100 pages) and some are long (more than 400 pages). While I would love to re-read Anna K. or read Ressurection, my time does not permit it to do it justice. If a short work is selected, I will happily read along; if a long work is selected, I will have to abstain.

With an angel face and a taste for suicidal.
It's a good read. Only about 60 pages I think. I picked it to complement a Philip Roth book I recently read called Everyman. Both Tolstoy's and Roth's books chronicle the death from illness of a central character from their point of view. I'm pretty sure Roth had Tolstoy in mind when he wrote it.I think I'll go for "Death of Ivan Ilych"...but again...any book by Tolstoy will be great

Yeah...one of the reasons why I chose that work is that it's not big...cuz I don't really have time for big ones...studying is ALL around here..lol
And now you gave me a new book to put on my list...the one by Roth..lols
And I actually like the novels and works which show the writer's own point of view...exaclty like you mentioned that they both chronicled the death of the central heros from thier own point of view...
I'm sure the two books are great...still gotta read them and decide...but I love Tolstoy..even though I never got the chance to finish his book "war and peace' lols...I know I know...I'm ALOT behind you guys...but I"m trying to keep up...lol

I'm very happy The Kreutzer Sonata is doing well! It shows such an interesting aspect to Tolstoy's personality and his own personal views on women and marriage. His wife wasn't happy with the story but it makes for fascinating reading.
