June/Pratchett Book: 'Mort'

In June, we are reading Mort by Terry Pratchett

Fantasy is an exercise bicycle for the mind. It might not take you anywhere, but it tones up the muscles that can. Of course, I could be wrong.

I love the conversation between Mort's dad and his brother, "What I don't understand is that the birds don't even fly away. I'd fly away, if I saw that coming towards me." "Ah, the human body's a wonderful thing. I mean, his legs go all over the place but there's a fair run of speed there."

And I know I've watched too many episodes of Billy and Mandy on the Cartoon network because whenever DEATH talks now, I think of him with a jamaican accent.

I am in the very start of the book and I love it uptill now. It is a good Comedy. I can't wait to complete it. Death's character seems very interesting.

So far i have found the start of the book to be pretty good

Finished reading Mort. It is an entertaining book (got a little bored in the middle) but I have to admit that I have read funnier books.

Here are some quotes I liked:

Tragic heros always moan when the gods take an interest in them but it's the people the gods ignore who the really tough deals.

Albert grunted. 'Do you know what happens to lads who ask too many questions?'
Mort thought for a moment.
'No,' he said eventually, 'what?'
There was silence.
Then Albert straightened up and said, 'Damned if I know. Probably they get answers and serve 'em right.'

It would seem that you have no useful skill or talent whatsoever,' he said. 'Have you thought of going into teaching?'

'There is no justice... Just us'

I love the part where Death is trying to figure out what fun is:

WE ARE HAVING FUN?

WHAT IS THIS FUN?

TO KICK VIGOROUSLY IS FUN?

TO HEAR LOUD MUSIC IN HOT ROOMS IS FUN?

THIS IS FUN. TO DRINK EXCESSIVELY IS FUN. WE ARE HAVING FUN. HE IS HAVING FUN. THIS IS SOME FUN. WHAT FUN.

I look forward to that conversation everytime I read this book.

And it was nice to have that little bit of the Wizards, I could sit and read the Wizards gab on about absolutely nothing for an entire book and not get bored...Lost Continent is a good book for that, that's another one, along with Mort that I read often.

I have finished it. It is a good novel. I will like to try any other part of Discworld as well. Both Mort and Death are interesting characters. The part where Mort has a crush on the princess and made mistakes was though a little boring (some other parts as well) but overall Pratchett has done a good job over it, I think so...

Some parts were funny though I don't think so that I got all funny bits because there were a few sentences which I was not getting easily and was in hurry to see the ending of the book so ignored them. *embarrassed*
