most people have probably heard o fortuna and just don't know that that's it.

well I had to give up and look,

the long road out of eden by the eagles. makes me wonder if its in reference to the garden of eden from genesis in particular, or a generic eden.

I love this song and there's been some really wonderful duet covers of it on the voice (the one with alessandra castranova and joe kirk is well worth looking up on youtube):

All along it was a fever
A cold sweat, hot headed believer
I threw my hands in the air I said show me something
He said, if you dare come a little closer

Round and around and around and around we go
Oh now tell me, now tell me, now tell me now you know

Not really sure how to feel about it
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like I can't live without you
It takes me all the way

Apparently this is "Stay" by Rihanna. Had to look it up.

"Well, I could see that he wasn't a large man
I could tell that he wasn't too tall
I judged him to be 'bout five foot three
And his voice was a soft Texas drawl"
    Some of us laugh
    Some of us cry
    Some of us smoke
    Some of us lie
But it's all just the way
that we cope with our lives...

    Marty Robbins - Mr. Shorty

Evidently there is another song with "Soft Texas drawl" in it, that would be Texas women by Hank Williams, Jr. :-)

So these, I adjusted them from a live version that is my favourite.

And he's taken the halter from his hose,
And from his purpose he did not fail
He slipped it over the wanton's nose
He's tied it to the grey mare's tail

He's loosed them out the castle gates
And the mare didn't fail to find her way
    She was at Lochmaben town,
Threen long hours before the day.

And the very next morning in broad daylight
When they had ended all their cheer
Behold the wanton brown was gone
Likewise the poor blind harper's mare

It's oh and alas, said the blind harper
It's ever and alas that I came here
In Scotland I've lost me a good grey foal
In England they've stolen me old grey mare.

And it's hold your talking, you blind harper
And again of your music let us hear
Well paid shall your colt foal be
You will have a far better mare

So the harper harped and then he sang
So sweet was the music he let them hear
He was paid for a foal that he never had lost
Three times over for the good grey mare.

the blind harper of lochmaben (yes I had to look that up!) by---I see its by a few people---so im going to go with.....kate rusby.

(this was a recent duet on the voice, and it just absolutely blew my doors in!)

I got ten fingers to the sky,
My back to the wall, my white flag high,
Her lips, just like a gun,
She's got silver bullets on her tongue,
    He's deep under her spell,
I'm screaming out, but it just won't help

    I think I'm cursed,
    I had him first

    Adeline have mercy,
You don't want to break my heart,
Take what's mine, don't hurt me,
Steal my money, steal my car,
Don't take my man, don't take my man,
I said, don't take my man 'cause you know you can...

a search says it's Put the Gun Down - ZZ Ward

    " I think you're gonna like it,
    I think you're gonna feel
    Like you belong,
    A nocturnal vacation,
    Unnecessary sedation,
You want to feel at home
    Cause you belong,"

Welcome to my Nightmare - Alice Cooper (I Love me some Alice)

    I try to discover
A little something to make me sweeter
Oh baby refrain from breaking my heart
I'm so in love with you
    I'll be forever blue
    That you gimme no reason
Why you make-a-me work so hard

I don't know it, but im going to guess somebody like Janis Joplin and then go look...

I found out it's a little respect by erasure, and as I was doing some reading they said, "we recognize Janis Joplin as our most significant musical influence" and that the lead singer has a poster of her on his wall. also "mum and dad used to put her records on and dance around the flat until the neighbors called the bobbies."

I remember it all very well lookin' back
It was the summer I turned eighteen
We lived in a one room, rundown shack
On the outskirts of New Orleans
We didn't have money for food or rent
To say the least we were hard pressed
Then Mama spent every last penny we had
To buy me a dancin' dress

Speaking of Janis Joplin...Me and Bobby McGee

I'll learn to work the saxophone
I'll play just what I feel
Drink Scotch whisky all night long
    And die behind the wheel
They got a name for the winners in the world
    I want a name when I lose

have to look this up...sounds like joe walsh maybe...

ah, its steely dan's deacon blue. I was reading the liner notes on that song and how the band was heavily influence by the eagle's hotel California and that the title "deacon blue" came from a conversation with joe walsh in a Malibu bar where walsh was telling them about his prize blue tick hound named deacon.

    laughs...

Dry lightning cracks across the skies
Those storm clouds gather in her eyes
Daddy was mean a old mister
Mama was an angel in the ground
The weather man called for a twister
    She prayed blow it down
There's not enough rain in Oklahoma
To wash the sins out of that house
There's not enough wind in Oklahoma
To rip the nails out of the past

"I don't want to lose you, this good thing
That I got 'cause if I do
    I will surely,
    Surely lose a lot.
    'Cause your love is better
    Than any love I know.

    "It's like thunder and lightning,
The way you love me is frightening..."

Knock On Wood ~ David Bowie

    You were fast asleep.
    Forget what he did.
    Can I be the kid,

pen--david bowie? that's pretty neat. its an old song by Wilson pickett, Otis redding, and a remake by amii stewart in the late 70s. ive not heard the bowie version, so that's another fun thing to look up.

"You can take all the tea in China
Put it in a big brown bag for me
Sail right around all the seven oceans
Drop it straight into the deep blue sea
    She's as sweet as..."
