i love gilmore girls, but my friends give me alot of stick about it. i think its awesome and funny an witty. it portrays a mother-daughter relationship that is very special and also very hard to find anywhere in real life, let alone on tv. its an awesome series, and i love it.

and i agree with starr that Lauren Graham is wicked. :P

Thanks for the link starrwriter!The only thing I was wondering, though, if this is in US currency?As we don't actually have Wal-Mart here in Australia, and this is a U.S site, so therefore do I just have to approximately double the price, considering the Australian dollar Vs the American dollar.I'll have to perform a current currency conversion, but my parents have always been funny about buying things online, I'll have to ask my mother first.She doesn't actually purchase things online and is wary of it-for saftey concerns etc.
Does anyone know any places in Australia where you can buy this?That is more likely for me right now...

The libraries here keep copies of season DVD sets of popular TV shows as well. Maybe you can find them there, Aurora.

I love this show Starr. At first I used to watch the version with sub-titles in Spanish; nowadays, I am watching and enjoying the last season without it.

Since so many members are apparently from outside the U.S., I wonder if they have access to see an American TV series I have come to love.

It's "The Gilmore Girls." It's supposedly a girly program and I realize I'm risking my reputation as a he-man to admit how much I enjoy it, but I can't help myself. Lauren Graham is the funniest, most endearing actress on television -- not to mention a very foxy lady who looks at least 10 years younger than her true age of 38. Her manic sarcastic humor keeps me in stitches every week. I end up watching some episodes twice to catch all of her rapid-fire hilarious remarks.

I learned Graham was born in Honolulu, which bolsters my theory that there must be something in the water supply here to produce so many beautiful women. In addition to Graham, Hawaii-born actresses include Megan Ward and Kelly Preston (John Travolta's wife) among a long list of gorgeous island girls who made a mark in Hollywood.

Any other guys like "The Gilmore Girls"?

HI starrwriter,i'm italian and yes here we have lots of american tv series....but my favourite are FRIENDS which is the smartest i've ever seen and Gilmore girls which is "Una mamma per amica"in italian that's to say "a mum as a friend" or something like...

I Think that Amy sherman palladino and her writers staff are just brilliant!
Great people... The monologs are very quick very fluent and most of all hilarious.. Yes i'll admit there are those scenes when it all gets " Mushy.."
but mainly the episodes are hypnotizing...
I would like to add that this show was one of the major boasts that drove my to sit my *** off and grab a book...
So Gilmore Girls i salute!.

Gilmore Girls is probably shown in Pakistan (or is available in DVD) but it sounds like one of these cheap, corny American sitcoms I usually wont touch with a ten-foot bargepole.

Well, that oughta teach me to actually watch a show before commenting on its merits. Silly EAP.

I bought the first season DVD set because of extreme boredom and the absence of Yes Minister! from the movie store. (I prefer to believe the picture of Alexis Bledel on the cover had nothing to do with it)
At best I was expecting another O.C, a show you can watch once and then do your best to erase the memory of its existence from alongside DVD's like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Closer.

Instead what I got was a weird combination of 40's noir, Joss Whedon style slapstick and dialogue coupled with the emotional intensity and social commentary of Dawson Creek-that-could-have-been.

Seriously, it's probably the best American show running on T.V. The only recent shows that come close to it in script quality are Buffy The Vampire Slayer and the criminally under-rated Carnivale. Witty dialogue, brilliant acting, clever cinematography and the tendency of the script-writers to toss in a myriad obscure references ranging from boxing quips to Proustisms makes the show a joy to watch. The Gilmore Girls have amazing screen chemistry. Rory and Loralai (heh - but that's another story and not for the PG-hearted) grew into their roles throughout the first season and I felt the coming of age of not only Rory but Loralai was very skillfully handled by the scriptwriters.

All the Gilmore Girls are extremely feisty and fun to follow; from the acid-cold, old-fashioned decadence of Gran'ma Loralai Gilmore to Grandmother Gilmore's turmoil-filled existence, Loralai's unwavering optimism, smart-*** conditioning and her relationship with Rory, who in turn seem to combine all the strengths and none of the weaknesses (well so far) in her character.

They are so dominant that we momentarily forget the male leads, who in themselves run the whole gamut from the bumbling jock to the staid cafe-owner; the intellectual-in-touch-with-his feminine-side school-teacher, a teen looking for love and acceptance, the grandfather who didn't quite knew how to be a father - none of them felt like filler characters and added to the show something unique of their own.

Even though I don't agree with a lot of values this show tries to promote, they are never pushed on the viewer or presented in any distasteful manner whatsoever. (The Donna Reed episode is a good case in point) The writers never forget that the primary purpose is to entertain which works well for all involved.

Looking forward towards watching the remaining seasons. Those of you who follow it, has it jumped the shark yet? If so, in which seasoned do you reckon was the zenith achieved?

Well, I have watched the first season of Gilmore girls recently and I fell in love with it. It was very hilarious and on some places ironic as well. I am looking forward to watch other seasons.
