    I paint a
    picture and stand myself at
    the center of the frame.
    Upon a green hill
    before a stone house.
    I look out at you
    and wonder what you see.

    A table, some chairs,
    and dirty dessert dishes.
    Discussion of school politics
    and federal mandates.
    A deep breath,
    a sip of coffee,
    and a real laugh.
And a sponge to clean up
    the spit.

    Why do you plague me?
    I see you,
    no name,
    and know you are
    named.

    Excellent...

Remember this, my friends: there are no such things as bad plants or bad men. There are only bad cultivators.

I wrestled with a man of tin
and found the strength to win within
I wrestled with a man of bronze
and the power win was in my brawns
I wrestled a man of steel
and the force was given for me to wield
But I wrestled with a man of gold
but under his wisdom I was schooled.

    Silicon highways spread through
    Data cities and souls.
    Light and sunshine bubbled up
    And wrought to gray cold,
    Pulse and fire extinguished,
    Save for
    The humming, the humming.

"He had a word, too. Love, he called it. But I had been used to words for a long time. I knew that that word was like the others: just a shape to fill a lack; that when the right time came, you wouldn't need a word for that any more than for pride or fear."

    After the Storm

    The smiling face
    drifts to the surface.
    Even in death,
    it mock me.
    With a shepherd's staff
    I push the cadaver down.
    Turning away,
    I leave it to rot,
    as a victim of
    a restless soul.

    Hairy brows
    and sagging lids
    I wonder what
    AGE will
    capture
    next.

    The sun pours its beams
over the horizon they do flow
    coating everything that is embraced
    soaking into the earth.

It is an odd state of affairs
when I must destroy my body
    to stay alive.

    Yellow buslines along streets,
    Angry, boisterous yellow lines
    Shouting and choking
    On their own vomit.

(I made this up on the spot, but then I had it edited.)

    October Moon

    I sent a smiling moon,
    a pouting moon came back.

    I sent a harvest moon,
    and nothing was returned.

(man, this new format is doing things to me)

He wanted to be someone, he said.
I said, well you already are.
A man, a carer, a rover among stars.
He said that was not enough.
I said well life is tough.

We sat and listened to the stars.
The sky got mellow, and we heard from afar
a sound that said you are what you are.

I had to give a kid a test!
I had to give a kid a test!
I had to give a kid a test!
    Because he was dumb.

    I gave a kid a test!
    I gave a kid a test!
    I gave a kid a test!
Darn, this is one dumb kid!
How do I tell his mom
    her kid is dumb?
