"Personal note: When I was a little kid my mother told me not to stare into the sun. So once when I was six, I did. At first the brightness was overwhelming, but I had seen that before. I kept looking, forcing myself not to blink, and then the brightness began to dissolve. My pupils shrunk to pinholes and everything came into focus and for a moment I understood. The doctors didn't know if my eyes would ever heal."

I mostly can't even close my door without actually holding my keys in my other hand, just to make sure I won't lock myself outside with the keys still insine my apartment.... It's never happened to me, and hopefully never will, so maybe being this neurotic has some good sides to it
I also always check I've got my keys, wallet, phone and bus ticket with me before I go anywhere. ONCE I stepped out of the bus without checking my bus ticket, and of course that one time it had slipped out of my pocket and I had to go buy a new travel card... They found my old card later, so I got back the 20 euro note I'd had between my travel card, so the monetary loss wasn't as big as I thought first. The whole thing still sucked, though.

The exact origin of the martini is unclear. Numerous cocktails with names and ingredients similar to the modern-day martini were first seen in bartending guides of the late 19th century.[6] One popular theory suggests it evolved from a cocktail called the Martinez served at the Occidental Hotel in San Francisco sometime in the early 1860s, which people frequented before taking an evening ferry to the nearby town of Martinez. Alternatively, the people of Martinez say the drink was first created by a bartender in their town.[7] Another theory links the first dry martini to the name of a bartender who concocted the drink at the Knickerbocker Hotel in New York City in 1911 or 1912.[8]
