It's not really a comparison. Dolly Parton all the way.

The first one...didn't much care for the knee slapping version

Try to overlook the sound quality of the second link on mine:

    Original:

    And the live cover:

I apologize if I've posted these two here before...I just love both of these bands so much...and this song is just awesome after so many years. I can't describe how happy it makes me to hear Kings of Leon doing a Pixies cover...

Mad World. Both versions were good and i would usually say that the cover version will never be better than the original and I still hold that but if there is a cover version that come close to the original, it would be this.

Even though Cocker's version is very good as well, Jay Hawkins' version steals the show, I think.

The original Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Eric Clapton/JJ Cale version is good but it seems more polished.

I like the first one better. I like how older ones sound, usually.

First let me say you offered some nice selections.
As for preference, I'm finding it difficult to decide. I too, typically I go with the "original" or older variant, but in this case I had to flip a coin; best 2 out of 3 with Ole Blue Eyes as Heads.

    Maroon 5 gets my vote.

As much as I love the blues sounds of Bobby, I have to give it to Whitesnake. I just prefer their cover over the original. It's weird, I know. xD
