    Thank you everyone!

It was indeed a grand day - I'm not one for parties and presents, but in the evening I cracked open a few bottles of wine, brought out some cakes and biscuits I had baked the day before, and had a few close friends over to watch a movie. Exactly the sort of thing I like!

However, by far and away the best thing about my birthday occured shortly after midnight (and thus about 15 minutes into my twenty-fourth year of age) when a friend-who-had-been-something-more-than-a-friend and I made the quantum leap to boyfriend and girlfriend. For the first time in bloody ages, I am no longer single, and have the wonderful, beautiful Liz by my side! The best birthday present I have ever had!

Cool, I'd say that's pretty "huzzah!" worthy (if I were the type to "huzzah!" that is, which I usually try to pretend I'm not).

I thought for sure there was going to be sex after I read that. Heck, maybe there was. You're a classy guy, not the type to **** and tell.

I am the type and have frequently typed "huzzah," so HUZZAH!

    And cool picture, MM.

    Happy belated birthday, Loka!

    An interview with Lokasenna:

*Why are we doing this interview thing?*
To help me procrastinate from doing actual work.

    *So, how old are you?*
The ripe old age of 24 (which, technically, can no longer be classed as 'early twenties').

*If you had a personal theme song what would it be?*
    Probably this.

*Are you male or female? *
    Male

*If you owned the site, what would you change?
    *

Nothing, but I'd probably sell it right back to the people who currently own it!

*What was the inspiration for your LitNet username? And if you could change it today, what would you pick?*
It's simply the title of my favourite Old Norse poem, meaning 'the insults of Loki.' I guess I'm not a very Loki-like figure, but I like it all the same, so I probably wouldn't change it. I do go by Archetype on some other forums, though.

    *Which countries have you visited?*
Quite a few, I'm pretty well travelled, though mostly European stuff. Pretty much all of Europe, and then the British Virgin Islands, Antigua, Russia, China and Japan.

    *Which languages do you speak?*
English, Icelandic, Old Norse, Old English, Old High German, Spanish, French, and then a bit of German, Latin, Danish, and pretentious twaddle.

*If you could live somewhere different, where would it be and why?*
Iceland, just because... you know... it's Iceland.

Have you heard the news today, oh boy?
Yes, alas - the world grows ever grimmer.

    *Do you have any pets?*
No, but I often dog-sit for my tutor, who has a year-old cocker spaniel named Denny, who is ridiculously adorable.

    *What makes you happy?*
Most things - life in general makes me happy.

*Do you take yourself too seriously, or not seriously enough?*
I take nothing seriously, particularly myself.

*Do you feel comfortable in your walk with God/atheism? *
    Very much so.

*Which actor should play you in a movie based on your life?*
I've been told there is a Bollywood actor who looks a lot like me..? I don't know, but whoever it is, they better bloomin' well be able to act!

    Who is your favourite Beatle?
A toss up between Stag and Dung.

*How do you like your coffee? *
    In the bin (yuck!).

*Given the option, what animal would you choose to be?*
A duck-billed platypus, then I can make my animal friends laugh.

*How is your reading year going?*
I don't seem to have much time at the moment, but I'm still making some headway through things that have been on the list for some time.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
A publisher (they pay you to read books? Really? I wanna do that, Daddy!).

*What's the biggest fish you've ever caught?*
One-and-a-half feet long, with a full length rod, from the fish counter in Tesco. My ban on entering the store expires next month.

*What makes you feel great about yourself?*
Delivering a lecture that has the audience in rapt attention, except at the parts when they're laughing at my jokes. It's the best feeling in the world.

*What are you naturally good at? (Skills, abilities, gifts etc.)*
Talking and listening. Oh, and I can also blow smoke through my ears!

*What is the one thing you must do before you die?*
    Finish this bloody thesis...

*If you had to teach something, what would you teach?*
I already do - early medieval literature is my thing. Though I'm really hoping the department will let me teach Shakespeare next year as well.

*What would you regret not fully doing, being or having in your life?*
Sometimes university life gets me very stressed, and I think how nice a cushy, well-paid middle-management job would be. But I just know that it would feel like giving up.

*If you were to be stuck at a particular time in your life, which one would you choose and why?*
Hmm, I don't know. Pretty much any time from the age of 16 up till now would be good.

*What book would you say sums you up?*
Probably the complete works of William Blake. It think we had a lot in common.

*What method do you cherish above all others, as means to improving your life?*
Be happy, have a positive outlook, be nice to people. The world is friendly to the person who is friendly to the world.

*What one thing would you NEED to have on a deserted island if you didn't have to worry over food and water? *
A boat. I'm not sitting on some boring island for the rest of my life!

*If you were a king/queen for a day, what would you do?*
Put on all the silly robes and jewels, and run through the palace making all the servants join me in singing rude sea-shanties.

*What’s the stupidest forum argument you’ve ever had?*
Pretty much any conversation I had with Musicology.

*What song is in your head at the moment?*
Vaughan Williams' Piano Concerto in C Major, third movement. I heard it for the first time the other day, I can't get it out of my head at all.

*Which book are you reading at the moment?*
Several on the go: The Complete Grimms' Fairy Tales, I Am Legend, and the Silmarillion.

    *What is your favourite quote?*
"Moi, je serai autocrate: c'est mon metier. Et le bon Dieu me pardonnnera: c'est son metier." - Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia.

Which comedians or cabaret artists do you like?

Billy Connolley is my favourite - absolutely wonderful! Bill Bailey is pretty awesome as well.

    *Favorite avatar on the Forum?*
    I rather like Emil's cat!

    *Favorite threads?*
Classical Listening, Opera anyone?, and the LitNet Photo album.

    What's your favorite sandwich?
Coronation Chicken (food of the gods, I tell you!)

*What is your answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything?*?
Actually, that's probably Coronation Chicken as well.

Who are some of the nicest people you met on LitNet?
I don't want to single any few out - there are so many really nice people on here.

What is the limit of your credibility?
    Almost nothing.

*What is the title of your next book?*
Haven't quite decided. At the minute, the contenders are 'Seven Stones' and 'The Lord in the World'.

    *Favorite poem?*
Depends on my mood, but Tennyson's Tithonus is usually a fair bet.

*First novel you remember reading on your own?*
It was either the Lost World or the Wizard of Oz.

*What era do you find most of the books you read are from?*
    Early medieval (no surprise there!)

    *Favorite TV shows?*
Doctor Who, Sherlock, most comedies from the 60s to the 90s.

*Which Forum members would you like to meet in person?*
Hmm... I think I'd prefer to host a LitNet party and meet lots of people.

*Last words you said out loud?*
It was, I'm afraid, an expletive. I'd just gotten back home from the supermarket, and realised I had forgotten to buy butter, so had to go right back out again.

    *Last person you hugged/kissed?*
A friend called David. No kissing, but he's going through a tough time at the moment, so friendly hugs are always available.

*What do you do (for a living) to be able to keep your LitNet addiction going? And are you happy with your chosen profession?*
(Un)professional student. I have a scholarship, so it actually pays quite well! And I am very happy with it!

*What would you like to be if you could change your profession?*
    Radio 3 presenter/Bond villain.

*Which one of the seven dwarves are you and why?*
Doc, I suppose - or at least I will be, come the end of the PhD.

*What is your most outstanding feature?*
Probably my height..? Not that many six foot four people knocking aroud.

*If you could change one thing about the way you look, what would that be?*
Oh, bloody hell. Start from scratch and be done with it!

*Which book do you wish you had written?*
Harry Potter, then I could be rich beyond the dreams of avarice.

*What book would you recommend to others of all types and ages as a must read?*
The Lord of the Rings (I'll prepare for the beating this is likely to get me!)

*What should you be doing at the moment instead of answering these questions?*
Making lunch (cheese and ham toasties - yum!)

*If Pensive were a gloomy clown, what would you be?*
    A purple feather-duster.

    *Describe your ideal day, please.*
I honestly don't know, but it would probably involve ice cream.

    *Favorite movie?*
    A Serious Man

    *Last movie you watched?
A rather strange Bollywood thing called 'Wake Up, Sid'

[*How are you going to pick just one favourite painting?*
    With weary inevitability.

    B]Do you want to buy a banana?[/B]
    No.

    *Favorite painting?*
It's got to be Van Gogh's Starry Night, though I know that's a clichéd thing to say!

    Bowie, yay or nay?
    I'll take the 'or' instead.

    *Wonderful Superman or depressing Batman?*
    Oh, Batman.

*Something you want to forget but you never can?*
    Deadlines!

If you could relive one moment in your life whenever you wanted to, what would it be?
Graduation was probably the best day of my life.

What is the best thing that happened to you since your last birthday?
I started giving academic papers, and found out that I really enjoy it.

*If you could send one thing to the Room 101, one would that be?*
    France. Or possibly the French.

*Are you mostly happy with life or are you still in pursuit?*
Pretty much happy, though I'll take any improvements life sends my way.

Tell us something scandalous about yourself.
I... I... I... quite like Disney films. Sob.

*How long did it take you to answer all of these questions?*
    Too long.

    Are you currently intoxicated?
    Sadly no.

    *When will you pay Whifflingpin?*
When the wolf-spirit flies from the west, foul Belial rises from the pit, and anchovies rain upon the world.

*One final word of wisdom for LitNet users?*
    Klonk.

*What question would you like to ask to the person to be interview after you?
What's your favourite song for singing in the shower?
    ~
"It is not that I am mad; it is only that my head is different from yours.”
    ~
