I liked it a lot. Very melodic, but the obligitory breakdown seemed a bit forced. 7.5/10.

What I love about Opeth is their ability to compose beautiful mellow and acoustic pieces.

Not too bad at all Paul, and for all Pauls here's a Peter before he grew tired and rich and turned up on Donahue as a completely different person pretending to be the actual with some nonsense about drinking and injecting all his money away and now living on the street

The real Peter called in saying who's this imposter and a confrontation between the two Peters was scheduled for later that month - I wonder if I can find it - anyway this is a great solo by a great drummer named Peter in a band back when they were the greatest thing since sliced milk

LOL. Yeah, that video is pretty funny. I love videos like that. I assumed it was black metal at first, just because that's where you usually see such cheese. I've never been a fan of the slow paced doom metal, though. 5/10.

Better production value, but another horribly cheesy video. (Though, I think Dimmu does it in a bit of a tongue-and-cheek manner. At least, that's what I hope.)

Well, seeing as how I'm not a descontructivist, "they sound like the bloody Smiths" is good enough for me. No more simple or complicated than that, no sleep lost for me.

Not a big fan of those Norwegian guys. But I gotta give it points for some brutal riffs. 5/10

I don't care what anyone says, Tim Owens has some friggin pipes.

I struggled to find an actual song or at least an attempt to sing.
Instead we hear the sappy, plaintive dialogue of a childhood outcast cursed with Rick Springfield features and his lifelong desire to fly over a canned symphonic score.
I doubt that he’ll even make past ground school with her.

2/10 – The “2” is for the blonde and the suffering she must endure.

Here’s an example exemplifying the successful blend of dialogue, music and singing.
Note the sensuality, aggression and passion.

I found the singing a bit annoying, and just not my kind of music. 4/10.

A story to go with my next song:

A couple years ago, I took an Oral Interpretation of Literature class (it was required). For those who don't know, this is a class where you learn to read literature in a theatrical manner, yet it's still not a full-blown performance. I found it somewhat stupid.

Anyways, the professor for this class was a very Christian woman, and she had no qualms about telling everyone so. To go along with this, she also explained how much she hated cursing and what-not (why she was teaching a college literature-heavy course in the first place and not Sunday school, I don't know). So, as the semester went on, I saw the most blatant examples of brown-nosery I'd ever seen. At one point we had a good one third of the class reading verses out of The Bible, or some other religious text. It was annoying, and by the end of the semester, I had had enough, because I am not Christian, or religious at all, for that matter.

The last reading we were to do was a choice of anything, and I chose the lyrics to this song along with another song by Tool. After hearing some more religious blathering, I got up to read my piece. I explained how it was about the singer's (Maynard James Keenan) mother, who after being paralyzed from a barin aneurysm, still chose to be a devout Catholic. Here are the lyrics:

    You're such an inspiration
For the ways that I will
    Never, ever choose to be
Oh so many ways for me to show you
How your savior has abandoned you

F*** your God, your Lord, your Christ
He did this, took all you had and
Left you this way, still you pray, never stray, never
Taste of the fruit, never thought to question "Why?"

It's not like you killed someone
It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side
Praise the one who left you broken down and paralyzed

He did it all for you...
He did it all for you...

Oh so many ways for me to show you
How your dogma has abandoned you

Pray to your Christ, to your God
Never taste of the fruit, never stray, never break, never
Choke on a lie even though he's the one who
Did this to you, you never thought to question "Why?"

It's not like you killed someone
It's not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side
Talk to Jesus Christ as if he knows the reasons why

He did it all for you...
He did it all for you...

When I read the line, in quite an angry manner, no less, "F*** your God, your lord, your Christ," a small, audible gasp of horror could be heard from the teacher. Only one other time in the semester did she audibly respond to such vulgarity (when someone decided to read a piece with the c-word in it), but her response to "F*** your God" was louder. It was a very proud moment for me, I must admit.

I remember the day I bought that album - and that song, well, it's already a classic, isn't it

    9.5 (it's not Tool, it's too short)

    This is just because:

Oops, my bad. The Doors song was my initial choice, but I meant to swap it with this example of "sensuality, agression and passion":

Never did like Meatloaf. He has the theatricality, but just not enough artistic merit to go with it. 3.5/10.

Once again, I venture into the court of the Crimson King.
