Introduce Yourself here and say Hi.

I have been re-reading Howard's End and woke up an hour ago, dreaming in it; and since there's no getting back to sleep, thought to 'google' it, found this site, and joined. A constant and obsessive reader, I'm mostly solitary in this occupation: living on a small island, there's lots of time for reading. I share my house with my two youngest children -- girls, 20 and 11, two cats -- Sushi & Sasha, and Pippin (a puppy). Other things I do are playing guitar & learning to play the harp -- classical guitar and folk, since I'm a child of the 70's (I mean, I was a teenager then) -- and celtic stuff on the harp, because I love it. I've earned an MA in English, taught several years as an adjunct and have been finishing up another MA in history. I should have started a Ph.D. in history a few years ago, but postponed it since I'm plagued by 'incompletes'! I read all kinds of books: classics, urban fantasy, fantasy, mystery. I read poetry as well and adore Shakespeare. Of course, I am writing a novel (two, actually), although I seem to think about it writing more than doing it. Now, I think I'm sleepy enough to get back to sleep. 'night.

Hello all. Officially new here today, but been creeping around the fringes for a couple weeks. Still haven't figured out how to navigate my way through all the forums. LOL!

I'm originally from NW Ontario, Canada....but for now homebase is near London, England, where I'm studying for a BSc in Social Anthropology. I waited till my kids were all grown up and gone before venturing into the world of academia, so it's all still new and very exciting to me. Off for the summer now, and looking forward to lots of museum-going and art gallery-viewing. London has a truly amazing collection of such things. :)

Books and music are my continual companions. Currently I have bookmarks in Dickens' Little Dorrit (going slow....actually a virtual bookmark, cuz I'm reading it on my PalmPilot); and Graham Greene's Brighton Rock (cuz I'm planning a quick day trip to Brighton soon); also have taken bites out of several books on medical anthropology, but I'll try not to bore you with any of those scary details. *grin*

My music tastes are all over the map.... Scanning quickly through my list from today I can see Shania Twain, Sting, Tracy Chapman, Enya, and Diana Krall, just for starters.

This is my first post to your network. I love to read, obviously, and always regret that I do not have more time to do it. I am 25 years old, work at the local hospital in radiology and ride a Suzuki SV650. Those latter two would explain the regret for not reading more.
The last book I read was Dostoevsky's The Adolescent. Finished it today, hooray.

Hello -yes, I have happily 'stumbled' upon this forum etc and so far have found it to be terrific! I live in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and am a Teacher of the Deaf, working part time now as I am winding down to retirement! Ha! Ha! I work as a Visiting Teacher which means I work one to one with the hearing impaired students in their own schools and also act as a consultant to their teachers. I am teaching students from 6 years to 17 years. One of my students is studying Animal Farm so I have been reading, reading, reading! Quite a difficult task, breaking it down into easily understood language etc. I am looking forward to reading more posts. thanks!

Unfortunately I overlooked this portion of the forum when I first joined. At any rate, I'm 20 years old, and I'm an avid reader and attempting to be an actor in Kansas City. I read a lot of Japanese literature, but don't limit myself to any one country. I'm currently reading "The Ruined Map" by Kobo Abe, and I just finished "Thousand Cranes" by Yasunari Kawabata. I've got a list of books I'm going to work through in the next few months if anyone would like to read, add, or critique it. Thanks for your feedback.

hey there my name is jaap (our commenly known as jack in the english speaking regions) im not new nor old i just havent visited the site for a long long long while partely due too the fact that i ve been on the road for some time where i ve met a lot of interesting people more then i ever would sitting in my cold little country called holland (people get out there!). i d love to know how to post a poem so i can get some honest comments on them (he who sits in the dark will never see the light shine) so for the moment i will give you lads a taste by posting it right here.

Hi all, just like to introduce myself.

I'll go by the name "Vertrauen" because I think my real name is so uninteresting. I'm a 20 year old girl from Germany who loves, loves to read and would be very glad to discuss literature of any sort. I like the novel the most out of all literary genres, but I also enjoy poetry and some drama. I especially like the old Germanic epics such as the Nibelungenlied and the Ring cycle of Wagner. English and Irish literature are a passion of mine as well. And yes, I love Lord of the Rings and Narnia, though I wouldn't say they're my favorite books. I'm working toward a career in journalism (I live in the US now), and have a very adventurous spirit :) I would love to discuss literature with other literary junkies out there, so that's why I joined.

I also lived in Holland for quite a long time. The cold, rainy weather was to me the only negative side of the country ;)
Btw: I really like your poem!
