I saw Harry Potter: Order of the Phoenix a few nights ago and I think it's one of the best Potter movie so far. :P
forgot to mention that i also watched Much Ado About Nothing yesterday (yep Janine i finally got it!) and Top Gear the Challenges. (half of it anyway!)
Yes i think the Order of the Pheonix is quite possibly the best so far.
yep the Kenneth Branagh one. Still trying to figure out why the chose Keanu reeves to play Don John.....
That's a fun one. I was pleasantly surprised with Denzel in that movie. But yes, Mr. Reeves...
Oh yes, I saw Once at the theater yesterday. I thought it was pretty excellent. Basically involves a singer/songwriter in Dublin who meets this Czech woman (you can imagine what a time an American viewer has understanding the speech in this movie!) and, well, um, writing some songs. I do not always care much for music films, and this one actually spends a good deal of time simply stressing the song being played without much happening onscreen (except for, perhaps, the playing of the song), but even so it is terrific. In the hope that I'll not be made fun of too much, I'll confess to tearing up, like a lot, during this movie - beginning with the Czech girl playing Mendelssohn in the music store. :bawling:
The songs are really good, and were apparently all actually written by the actor and actress (whose characters, one realizes during the ending credits, lack names). Anyway, it's 5 a.m. and I need sleep, so that's all the review you get from me.
I really want to see that movie. good to hear its enjoyable, Glen Hansard, lead singer of The Frames(An Irish band that are mainly famous here but can equally fill the same venue as the likes of Mettallica.), plays the "guy" with the czech girl. he was also in The Commitments.
I am just now getting around to watching Jarhead with Jake Gyllenhall and I give it 10/10. I don't know why I didn't want to watch it when it first came out, but I happened to catch it on cable the other night and I really think this one would have been worth the big screen admission price. I especially liked the booty dance Jake Gyllenhall did wearing nothing but a strategically placed Santa Hat. :thumbs_up Oh, and the sand barf scene --- that was good too.
Harry Potter-pretty good. I thought it was better than the other ones...but hey!! I'd give it a 8/10 because one part really pissed me off cause it was totally wrong. TOTALLY different...
I also just saw Fun With Dick and Jane...one of THE greatest movies ever. "What are you doooing with my tele-VIsi-on??" hahaha:lol: makes me laugh. 10/10.
Harry Potter 5 - I didn't really like it. It's not one of the best films....I still like the 3rd one best. I thought it was pretty choppy and it seemed like the director assumed that everyone has read the book so he didn't explain anything....also i think there's too much talking...I mean, it's still a kids movie after all....
I have yet to go see Harry Potter, but do plan to.
I just watched Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood , and I think it rates an 8/10. It is great to think that friends can stick through all the ups and downs of life, and I thought that the story line was well done. Yeah, I liked it. :)
Wish I had more access to some of these foreign (to me in USA) films...they all sound interesting....
Must've been a Christian Bale night....
Swing Kids...young CB...I loved the music, dancing, ending....awesome movie all around 10
American Psycho...had to watch it several times( and the special features!) very complex psycho stuff...but well done...10
Reign of Fire...Love it! one of my faves....
21 Grams-so good. The first time I've ever seen it. I love watching films with that kind of style. Reminded me a lot like Crash. 10/10.
Just finished watching Sorority Boys...its so stupid its hilarious. It made me giggle...haha.. It was pretty bad though. Not Napolean Dynomite bad though...;)
I watched Pan's Labyrinth(El Laberinto del fauno)...I like it much and at the end i cried and cried...I strongly recommend it.
Sea of Love...Pacino & Barkin...10/10
The Transformers--with the long suffering wife. I liked it BUT with my advanced years as good as it was I think I have seen one action movie too many. Ironically both my two sons raved about it. It just never grabbed me like Star Wars and Aliens did back in the day. To make this easier - it was like Casino Royale giving the James Bond franchise a breath of fresh air--and I very much like Pierce Broseman by the by. Transformers reminded me of another Spielberg movie where life is just shy of being real (not all his flicks are like that) but there seems to be a slight bit of repitive themes. Long story longer have probably seen the Joker getting punched by Batman 20 times too many--the edge is off. Now if Grimlock had been in the picture--wait--the sequel's been announced. I can wait. Anticipation back now.
ratatouille
it has a literary quality to it apparent to all brad bird works. there's somn just as magical with his brand of animation as miyazaki has with his.
it's definitely the best animated affair of 2007 for sure.
just the concept alone is crazy rat in a kitchen... COOKING gourmet food. but the movie succeeds and works on so many levels. i was skeptical after cars from last year... but brad bird made all the difference.
Basic Instinct....love the suspense & sexy psycho mind games...scenery & music is beautiful....10/10
Hidalgo...Horses, beautiful scenery & music....10/10
Happy Feet -- 10/10. It was such a cute movie. I just loved those little penguins.
Last King of Scotland -- 10/10. If I do not like Amin, it's because of this movie.
Little Miss Sunshine -- 10/10. The girl is so cute. I just loved the dance sequence in the end. The whole family is eccentric.
live free, die hard.
It was ......ok. The best in his series, whatever that might mean.
I give it a 6.5/10
Transformers. Loved it, even though it nearly busted my bladder. Well worth seeing though.
A.I.
I liked it even thought since I had no electricity :flare: I couldn't finish watching it. But I give a 8 out of ten.
Oh my, that was the saddest movie I have ever seen. :( The only movie that could counter it in that was Edward Scissorhands...
Ah yes! And Johnny so cute...
I know it's an old one...Reign of Fire.....on the TV at the moment.....
Matthew McConaughey at his finest....'have your little 'swaray'...raspy voiced...jumping into the mouth of the dragon...swinging that axe...awesome....
That movie was OK but Dragonheart was much, much, better. Starting from the voice of Sean Connery and finishing with incredible special effects...
Oh... Yeah!!! I really don't compare movies...usually each one is unique unto itself....but I do love Dragonheart....Sean Is 'The Man'.....haven't seen it in awhile tho...must put it on my 'must see again' list...Thanks! Yeah...Draco in the night sky....
In a Dark Place - Starring Leelee Sobieski
1/10
Summary: A spacy long-haird art instructor named Anna, who dresses in form-fitting, lowcut sweaters and tight-fitting dresses gets fired from her teaching post and takes a job as a nanny. But for some reason, she sleeps with the principal after he cans her (apparently - that's what the movie seems to suggest). The principal goes on to set her up with the nanny job (I guess to pay back the favor?) and she goes to the interview in her best form-fitting, low-cut sweater and skirt ensemble and gets hired on the spot.
The children Anna is paid to care for are orphans and their wealthy uncle provides for them. She goes to live in his spooky mansion with the children, (Flora and Miles). Miles is away at a boarding school, but quickly joins his sister and Anna and Ms. Gross (who is the uncle's secretary/household manager) after he is expelled from yet another school.
At once strange things happen. Anna sees a strange man outside the window and finds out the previous Nanny drowned in the pond nearby. All the while, the children seem to be up to mischief or worse.
And that's all I know. Anna walks around in a half-open bathrobe a lot, has flashbacks to her childhood, goes through Ms. Gross' panty drawer and finds a picture of the strange man she saw outside the window, has a strange relationship with Ms. Gross, sits in the tub a lot, and is startled while sitting in the tub and has to stand up abrubtly.
The ending was as incoherent as the rest of the movie and when it was over, I wasn't sure what happened at all. The point of the movie may have been to leave the viewer wondering whether it's a ghost story at all, or just a story about a crazy person, but I am thinking maybe they meant for Anna's character to be stark-raving mad. Whatever the case, it was 2 hours of my time that I will never get back. The best part was reading this review of it afterward, trying to figure out what just happened:
Quote:
Leelee Sobieski proves to be ill fitting as lead. Her natural, tight coiled demeanor and monotone voice lends to unconvincing expressions ranging from blank to forced. Donato seems to think that filming her in the bath and an open robe will make up for this. Its actually pretty laughable. Within the first five minutes she's had two obligatory bath scenes. Later, Anna passes out, wakes up hearing voices, walks around in an open robe (for the fourth or fifth time in the film), then, takes a bath. Again, later, Anna has a tryst with Miss Grose, wakes up, walks around in an open robe, has a ghostly crack-up, solution: take a bath! Miles escapes off into the night, they get him out of the cold, Anna sleeps in his room, of course, in a an open robe. You get the idea. Rinse (pun intended) and repeat.
That's funny, seeing as how Henry James's Turn of the Screw (which this seems, by all appearances, to be vaguely based on, considering the very similar plot and identical names) shares this weird ambiguity. I've not heard of this adaptation, though I've seen a few others; perhaps I'll have to look into it. But then, in light of your review, maybe not...
First Post!
Watched Seven Samurai by Akira Kurosawa last night. This is ofcourse a classic movie that can be rated only by 10/10, the first and still the best '' action movie'' ever made. The movie is an epic tale of friendship and courage, the characters are all memorable and you bond easily with them. Everything about this movie says it is made by people who loved doing it every step of the way. That combined with the considerable talent of director Kurosawa makes this a classic masterpiece.
Shawshank Redemption...This movie is my favourite.Idon't know how many times i watched it.But i know I'll watch it again and again and again.:thumbs_up
