Its pronounced very softly, very delicate word (and freedom can be delicate). Whisper it and see how it seems to float from your mouth and fade.:)

You can't go for this name, there's already a container ship with this name Cap Finisterre which I know about because in my work I'm involved in the Maritime industry and this vessel has been subject to a major maritime incident.

I'm sure you don't want to associate your lovely boat with this monster.
Advice from the Marine world is :
1. Don't name your boat with any name beginning with the letter 'D' - this is considered most unlucky (have you read Dracula? The vessel he came over on was called the 'Demeter')
2. Avoid the South China Sea - there be pirates there!
Good luck with naming and the voyage. You could always call the boat 'Lit-net' :)
OK, one last try:
"Queen Mary"
It has a ring doesn't it???
I can name that ship in three words...............
Tim's Blow Hole
Granny got me to thinking:
"Shiver me timbers"
well blow me down!
And the winners are......
(drumroll, please)
Logos with "Panthalassa". Great name for a boat! Far better than anything I could have come up with!!
Second prize goes to Niamh with "General Chat".
Since I have decided that I don't want to live all alone on this big boat, I'm going to get a cat. His/her name will be General Chat. I will pronounce Chat in the French way (like shot or the past tense of poop) since that is the way you say/spell cat in French.
Thank you everybody for all of the marvelous suggestions!!
Aw shucks bib ;) :) glad to have been of help! what an honour! or should I say, honneur. General Chat, that's a fabulous name for your cat/mascot
Cool names Bib! For a cat AND a boat.
can anybody help me decide on a cool name for my dad's boat?
I was thinking on something like Le Arc-en-Ciel or the Prydwynn
Great Name Bib!
Oh, Bib! it just gets closer and closer every day and I have a nervous stomach for you. It just sounds like such a huge thing to do- the kind of thing people only talk about doing- I'm just about scared to death for you. I know you are a sailor and you may not be afraid, but I am. It it will seem that you are so far away. The more I think about it the more I worry. And all of that water- every way you look water. I don't even put my face in the shower spray. I actually keep a dry wash cloth to dry my face in the shower if it accidentally gets wet. Knowing you'll have a cat does make me feel better for some reason, like everything will be fine with the General on board.
wow, an honest sail boat! congratulations man, and a fine choice in names! :thumbs_up
Aww, what a shame I missed this...no one suggested "Serenity"? Ah, well. Congratulations on your new boat, Biblio!!
Great name Biblio:) I hope that both you and your cat will have many good memories aboard her. I love the name General Chat for a cat, that it too funny:lol: Take Care, Meg
tuggy!
No! I missed this! And I had a great name! Darn...
What was your suggestion, Chava?
I have a nervous stomach, too, Motherhubbard..... but mine is from excitement! I've never been this happy in my life! Don't be scared for me.... I've spent more of my life on the sea than on the land and I'm quite at home there. (specially now that It doesn't make me sea-sick anymore!!)
Take care and keep your face dry! ;)
All those swimming lessons were wasted on her!
When does your trip start, Bib?
Tonya wants to know the following:
can you tie a rope around yourself 24/7 in case you fall off the boat?
can you also tie one to the cat?
How will we know if you've fallen off the boat or get attack by pirates?
What if we think you're out there having a good time and your sick or drown?
You have to check in on a schedule and that way if we don't here from you we can send the Coast Guard out for a gay sailor and General Chat...I promise she's on the phone and I'm typing what she says!
WOW! Tonya needs to take a Xanax AND a Valium!! Has she always been this panicky?
If any of those horrible things happen, you'll someday read about it in the papers when they find my boat adrift in the middle of the ocean.
There is no such thing as a schedule out in the middle of the ocean when you have no job to get back to and no place that you have to be. Saoirse and schedules don't mix.
If I were you (her) I'd worry more about me TURNING INTO a pirate, rather than being attacked by them.
Hey, maybe the last one will make her feel better. Yes she has always considered the worse....I have no idea where she gets that. Must be from Poppy. I hope you have a wonderful time and if you ever get up the mississippi, give us a call. We have friends in Memphis who own the greatest gay bar in the middle part of the country. It's outrageous!!!
Congrats, Tim, on your new boat. Sorry that I missed the naming fun, but you have some great choices there. :)
