I read a novel about Western Australia not long ago and the main character was new to the area and went out with his mates and got too close to a male Kangaroo, who was protecting his family; the kangaroo almost crushed him to death. Can that really happen, if they are cornered or threatened? They described him as a very large kangaroo and quite powerful, strong.
Now Koalas are native to Australia, right? Maybe they are in zoos now to protect their species. They must still have some in the wild, I would imagine. My neighbor was born in Australia and when her family went to visit she brought back addresses of kids we could write to as penpals. I learned a lot about the country then conversing with a young student. I recall my neighbor taught us in Girl Scouts all about the native animals and I am sure Koalas were included in that list.
