Introduce Yourself here and say Hi.

Hi everyone,
I am 28 years old and currently living in Newark, NJ though I originally hail from Bronx, NY. I have moved around a considerae amount since coming to New Jersey, but I like where I am now. I am an avid book reader and people watcher, but as none of my current friends enjoy reading books, I have come here in the hopes of intellectual discussion on literature. As most people who read heavily do, I also believe that I will one day pen my own manuscript worthy of publication, though I as for now I am much more concerned with filling my mind and ample free time with writings of others. Fantasy and science fiction are by far and away my favorite genres, but I enjoy novels of all types and do once in awhile read non-fiction as well, but I find most short stories, even this written by my favorite authors to be unfulfilling. The longer the book the better, if well written, and I love multiple book series ala Harry Potter and Ender's Saga. I hope I have come to the right place to find rewarding discussions and hope that you all will excuse the limits of my vocabulary.

Hey, just joined here today and hopefully will prove a useful website to visit. From what I've seen so far it will be, anyway.

I'm no stranger to forums so hopefully will act slightly more maturely than the average newbie you might get occasionally - I moderate the Official Nintendo Magazine forums so can fully appreciate the hassle that is sometimes caused!

I'm currently a student studying Literature at A2 level and have fond the discussion on this website already very inciteful, and plan to become an integrated part of the community. Thanks.

Ahh, you're in a similar situation to me then. I'm doing A2 Lit, and it's one of my considerations to take at a further level. Which exam-board are you doing? If we're on the same course it could be useful to throw ideas around. I'm on AQA studying Gothic at the moment.

I think we are doing AQA too but are currently studying American Literature for coursework and Shakespeare for the exam. :)

That's ironic actually, virtually identical to what I did at AS (but at a lower level I guess). We did Fitzgerald and Arthur Miller, both American, and Hamlet. Shame really!

Hi everyone,

I just signed up to the forum today. I'm looking for a place to post some of my fictional writing and get some constructive criticism. I've been writing since I was quite young (I'm 20 now), and I'm now hoping to go to university next year for my English degree with a focus on creative writing. I'm currently just waiting to hear back from the universities that I applied to. I am, at the moment, working full time as a receptionist. I really dislike it, but the pay is good and so are the people, so I've been putting up with it for a year and a half. It's also given me the money that I'll need for schooling and living expenses (I'm hoping to be going to school somewhere NOT in my city).

A few things about me: I'm Canadian. I love reading and writing. I've played soccer since I was young. I currently play on two teams, one competitively and one just for fun. I have an amazing family. I have one sister, older, who recently moved to New York with her husband (they're newly weds). I love to travel, and I am currently planning a trip to Greece--whether or not it'll happen is a completely different story. I also one day want to go to Japan and explore the entire country. I'm fascinated by their culture and history. I also love anime. They have a giant Pokemon store in Osaka that I'm dying to go see!

I'm passionate about writing but I always get frustrated with myself and over critical and end up abandoning my work. What I'm really looking for out of this forum is someone (or multiple someones) that can help push me to actually keep with my writing, even when I get discouraged. I figure if I'm actually going to go into an English department, I need to start working on my focus and drive. So, I decided to turn to the internet. My family and friends are supportive, but it's not quite the same as talking to other people who love writing and reading as well.

I look forward to being a part of all this and to hearing back from some people!

Sometimes that's the problem. They tell you 'Yeh - that's really nice' but you're never sure whether or not they're saying so to avoid hurting your feelings. I'll look forward to reading your work on here and giving you feedback. You can't beat peer reviews.

I'm from Ireland and in my last year of collage. i'm a real nerd for books and love all kinds. most of the things i read are history, some philosophy, classic literature and maybe a few modern novels now and then. i don't ever fancy being a writer as i doubt i have the patience for it yet i love to discuss great books and look forward to some lively discussion.

Community relations and revolutionary movements. books on david gurien, naom chomskey, malcolm, huey, shakespeare, charles dickens, thomas paine are some of the authros i indulge in often. free time for me is to spend my time walking, or reading a book , maybe classical country music.

Hello am very new. At this time I am reading fact and fiction, my two on the go are Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe's Fury, and Colin Wilson's A Criminal History of Mankind. As you can see I enjoy History and I have a B.A. in Modern History from the University of Westminster. London. hello and here is a bit about me. i am an almost 30 year old man and i have done a lot of different things in my life but these days it is just all about books. i work part time in a very large bookstore on academic nonfiction titles but i have a BA in literature and almost all of my reading has been in fiction. i am most attracted to what is called literary fiction but i enjoy all adult genres including contemporary romance, science fiction and fantasy, horror, crime, or almost anything at all. i love reading literature that attempts to challenge humanity to go further in art than what has been previously possible, or even transcends previous limitations, and thinking about all of the complex issues surrounding these sorts of ambitions. i read very slowly and feel embarrassed that i have not read more but this is a concern i am always trying to address! i am currently lucky to be able to take some time out from the general demands and expectations of life to pursue my interest in reading and i am trying to work my way through "big" books, having just read Joyce's Ulysses and now about a third through Moby Dick. i am a very introverted person so mostly spend my time alone by choice but also appreciate human perspectives other than my own and look forward to discussing books with you all on the forum.

Hello! My name is Sharayah. I'm really here to just broaden my mind, also I'm having troubles with my Final English paper for this semester and need a beginning idea for my topic. It seems to always be the hardest thing about the paper. Aside from that here's a little about me;
I really enjoy drawing of all sorts, but my fingers prefer a paint brush with watercolor. I seldom hunt, but when I do my buck is always bigger then the boys', also I prefer salmon fishing above other sorts of the sport. I love and have coached volleyball and softball. I'm a part-time housekeeper and a full-time student on my way to a Bachelors in Graphic Design. Hopefully by next year I'll have my CNA license and move up in the world a little bit. As long as there's progress there's a life to be lived.

I am a twenty-something recent college grad who is working in office - hope this is temporary and eventually I will save enough for grad school. Though my undergrad training (that is quite shallow) is in social sciences, I have also developed an interest in literature and philosophy gradually. My favorite author is Flannery O'Connor. I also speak Chinese (but cannot write in it well) since I spent a few years there in childhood (those years also made me still infatuated with juvenile anime, my guilty pleasure).

Though I know it may be impolite or demanding to ask for favors on my first day (sorry!), but I encountered the forum when I am seeking help on a passage in the Toni Morrison novel I am reading, Sula. My name is Mitch and right now I am reviving my habits of younger years in reading fiction. Recently read some Kafka, some Joyce, some Wolfe, and currently being made somewhat melancholic by the early chapters of Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre: though my mind detects the illuminations in Charlotte's work and continues on.

Favourites from the past were: Kerouac, Kundera, Orwell, Salinger, Tolkien, Defoe, Stevenson,,,. I forget the rest but surprise myself how many things were read before entering non-fiction decades.

I'm an avid thriller reader in general with James Patterson probably being my favourite, I've always enjoyed the Alex Cross novels (not sure about Tyler Perry taking over from Morgan Freeman in the new film adaptation...hardly like for like).
