For the last few decades the mentally ill have been treated mostly on an outpatient basis, if at all. And, as I pointed out in my post on homelessness, most homeless people in the U.S.A. have some sort of mental illness. Religion is seldom held up as the highest and best example of rational thought, but we often ignore the irrationality of religion, especially organized religion. The starting point is the difference between objectivity and subjectivity.
