You think it was boring because you don't get it! The book is a tightly bound and changing novel. In the beginning, Henry does feel lonely in his brigade, but after the first battle is over Crane delivers an amazing novel. The struggle between being a hero or a coward keeps the book alive even though he may not be in battle. By the way, maybe you think the end was horrible because you didn't get that either. Crane's whole point in having the brigade cross back over the river is he believes that war means nothing. "War, huah, what is it good for? Absolutely...Nothing! Say it again ya'll". That's the main theme in the novel. Maybe you should try understanding a book before bashing a masterpiece.

I agree that the the book was boring. I read it after I had heard of the accolades the work had received. Being a military literature fan, it doesn't merit a good mark from me. But Crane does deliver his message plainly and many seem to enjoy the work.

I think that after the first 30 pages you must have stopped reading. Look the last few chapters where "the loud one" changed to "the friend" that is so obviosly stated that I find it hard to believe that you're complaining. Read the whole book before telling everyone it sucks.

I thought this book was boring. I could only get to the 30 page before realizing it's all the same. He and his brigade are in the war he has no friends. The end It was horrible. I can not get over the fact it was a best seller. The only good thing about it was that it is short.
