So the other day I discovered something very lovely. . . when looking at quotes of Novalis, I came across one that was quote from "Leaflets of the White Rose," - not having ever heard of this, I looked it up. To me, a rather breathtaking act of courage and beauty, they were anonymous pamphlets written during the 2nd world war in Germany; in an effort to bring sanity back to the country - by sharing some of the beauty of previous poets and thinkers, and also a polemic against the National Socialist regime.

These are just especially beautiful to me, because they seem to embody the spirit of poetry and virtue that was cultivated by so many centuries of artists and the poets of humanity. .
It also reminds me of another quote.
“The artist’s task is to save the soul of mankind; and anything less is a dithering while Rome burns. Because of the artists, who are self-selected, for being able to journey into the Other, if the artists cannot find the way, then the way cannot be found.” - Terence McKenna
Anyway - such a beautiful and courageous act by these individuals.. it really struck and moved me, and I wanted to share -
The Novalis quote was
"Blood will stream over Europe until the nations become aware of the frightful madness which drives them in circles. And then, struck by celestial music and made gentle, they approach their former altars all together, hear about the works of peace, and hold a great celebration of peace with fervent tears before the smoking altars."
As quoted in the Fourth Leaflet of the White Rose (1942). (http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Novalis)

It was very inspirational to me to find these, so I just wanted to share this act of courage and beauty, thanks for checking it out.
