If Land Animals Could Shoot Back

Ninety-nine percent of hunters
would hunt land animals no more.
They would settle for shooting fish.

They would mount the fish on their den walls
and over drinks would relate
the difficulty of gaining their kill.

If land animals could shoot back
there would be far fewer executioners
boasting about shooting
a defenseless animal.

Jassy this is a great piece and what a poignant subject.
I think if animals could speak none of us will be up for it to listen because it would be too painful.

I think if land animals could talk it would make for a much more interesting poem since hunters already mount fish on their walls and not all land animals are considered defenceless.

It's a strong, plain statement and a wonderful poem, Jassy. For me it goes even beyond the hunting land animals' zone, to that of humans (those who can shoot and those defenceless). And thus it becomes a powerful metaphor and a protest.

Provocative title. The image of fish on the wall is so original. I enjoyed the irony very much.
