Sheltered from acid rain
beneath the canopy
of the elm tree,
my fingers dip in a stagnant pool
of unfelt raindrops.
A fire cremates timber,
a swan on the lake ripples
its perfect reflection.
Machines plant crops.
A mayfly buzzes a bluebell
at the very dusk of it's day.
A cat curls a furball,
a scarecrow lost for words,
as a star, understated,
silently fades away.
A girl with coloured ribbons
tiptoes on sundries leaves,
white dress encircling
on a sweet grass scented breeze.
A river boatman
majestically sails on by.
The daylight and the mayfly
sense its time to die.
The girl with her ribbons
runs home for her tea,
beneath a rotting elm
I sit and watch tv.
