Sheltered from acid rain
beneath the canopy
of the elm tree,
my fingers dip in a stagnant pool
of unfelt raindrops.
A fire cremates timber,
a swan on the lake ripples
its perfect reflection.
Machines plant crops.
A mayfly buzzes a bluebell
at the very dusk of it's day.
A cat curls a furball,
a scarecrow lost for words,
as a star, understated,
silently fades away.
A girl with coloured ribbons
tiptoes on sundries leaves,
white dress encircling
on a sweet grass scented breeze.
A river boatman
majestically sails on by.
The daylight and the mayfly
sense its time to die.
The girl with her ribbons
runs home for her tea,
beneath a rotting elm
I sit and watch tv.

Feeling down and out beneath a rotting tree? That's what screwdrivers are for ;) There's something nice about "unfelt raindrops" despite the "acid rain". So is this:

A girl with coloured ribbons
tiptoes on sundries leaves,
white dress encircling
on a sweet grass scented breeze.

And what an intriguing way to say sunset:

The daylight and the mayfly
sense its time to die.

There's a lot to like here, JB but I do have reservations about:

"at the very dusk of it's day." which might be worded better,

"A cat curls a furball," As I'm not sure what it means. "Hurls a furball" might be better as it has a double meaning ;)

and

"tiptoes on sundries leaves," the meaning of this line isn't clear. do you mean "tiptoes on sundry leaves" or "tiptoes on sundries, (and) leaves. Either way it reads oddly. Do you mean leaves as in green leafy things, or 'departs'? either makes sense, so meaning is confused. If you mean 'depart' it clashes with the girl going home at the end of the poem, because effectively you've said she's gone already. If you say "...sundry leaves" it makes more sense gramatically and the meaning is clear.

apart from these minor quibbles I like this poem a lot, even if you're feeling miserable
