View Full Version : Wonderland for Mice

Divine Cheshire Cats cart-wheel
through the essence of my everyday
–riddling me with compassion and forgetfulness.
Their teeth, so slyly deceitful, shine like moons
but are stained with the blood of mice like me
who are too attracted to crescent trickery to run
but too modest and shy to survive the bite
that slices into our spines–derailing us
and paralyzing us in such a molecular way
that even if we regain our footing,
we are never as we once were.
And instead of chirping around and hunting cheese
we are shaking, rattling, crawling
so intensely that you can hear the earth rumble.
But it doesn't quake, it's just the feeling mice get
when their spines have been torn
and their hearts have been silenced.

Terrific, like the dinosaurs! Those that stay on the rat race are meals for the cats. I was thinking about the Cheshire Cat again recently too.

One small qualm though. 'that even we if we' has a 'we' in excess, no?

Thanks for sharing this! :)

Now I noticed what you meant. I've had a long few days.

Fixing.

It isn't easy being a mouse, especially in a world populated by Cheshire Cats!
