sadly danik, one of my neighbors cats (miles) who has been coming here regularly and mewling outside my door, mysteriously died last night. its a tough world for animals.

poof is still here. the male half of the neighbors was next door over the weekend working and I could have gone over and said "hey, can you please pay attention to your cat" but I didn't.

spritzer is still restricted to the indoors until I stop feeding the birds, which is probably about 4-6 weeks. I might by that time have to dismantle poofs shelter because if poof is around, then spritzer wont come to the door to be let back in.

we're just about to enter in some very unseasonably warm weather danik. that'll be much appreciated. I think i'll be still feeding poof at least for the next few weeks until the end of march. sometime between now and then i'll probably write the wife of the empty house next door to enquire about their being around. I wouldn't mind to keep feeding poof, but pretty soon i'll be letting spritzer outside and id like her to be able to come and go without fear. so somehow I have to figure that out.

the big critter news is that the geese have returned to the area. every year a mating pair come here and the mrs makes a nest on an island in the pond next door while the mr hangs out here. when the babies are born they mostly spend their time here. its something I look forward to and enjoy every year.

other critter news is the racoon under my house was driving me nuts chewing on something and waking me up all hours of the night. id have to get out of bed and bang on the walls and floor to get him to stop, go back to bed and have it happen all over again. sometimes id even sleep on the floor right next to where he was to make the whole process more efficient and less aggravating. thankfully lately he's given up the chewing.

About birds: A German digital friend writes me every year about the pair of storks that resides on the other side of the street. On the roof of the house there is a special place for a birds nest. When spring announces itself the birds build their nest, the female lays her eggs and both storks take care of the young ones until they are able to fly. When it starts to get cold they are all off on vacations in sunny countries. The following year it starts all over again. My friend send me a Pic of them in front of their next. You can't imagine anything more blase than these German citizens poising in front of their fixed dwelling.

i think poof and spritzer will be okay around each other outside danik, but I think poof's presence will keep her from being able to come and go as she pleases and i try to make it so that spritzer doesn't spend the night outside. its touch and go danik. I think I told you recently poof chased spritzer up a tree? and then spritzer fell when she was climbing down. and then a handful of days ago poof attacker her again and this time spritzer ran up a tree with branches out over the pond. thankfully she made it back down okay. no cat fracases since then, and ive actually had them both within a few feet of each other petting both at the same time, but it was a little nerve wracking to have been in the middle of teeth and claws so it didn't last long. poof is still sleeping here, hangs out here all day and then goes next door to eat.

Seems things are improving slowly, Bounty. Spritzer is learning to deal with Poof and Poof is taking her meals, where she should. I think it's good to observe them a while longer, until they are really used to each other. Petting both at the same time was a good idea, though not totally without risks.
