thanks for the link danik. the problem isn't with spritzer though, its predominantly with poof. although lately he's been spending his days in the back bedroom and that's been helpful, but also a little saddening.

my house is really small and that makes things a challenge. today im going to buy another litter box and that'll help keep them from having to cross occupied paths.

the big monkey wrench is that starting today im going to be dog sitting for a week. i'll have to move poofs food to a new place, which should be okay, but this is going to likely mean he'll be spending all the more time alone in the back bedroom. for some reason that I don't understand, when I go back to check on him, he scurries under the bed. otherwise when he's in the rest of the house, he comes up to me to get pet, or allows me to come up to him to pet him.

im more into keeping their bowls with food in them so they can eat whenever they want, especially since spritzers so skinny. but the bowls are in separate places, which helps. although one day poof was eating out of spritzers bowl and spritzer didn't see him---she jumped up on the table practically right into poof's face. thankfully the fracas there was short-lived.

I got a new litter box a few days ago that will maybe help eventually. right now spritzers going to the old one because poofs been hiding, which gives her passage. although its funny to watch spritzer check the hallway just in case.

why thanks danik. poofs owner told me shes an indoor/outdoor cat and as it turns out, she has a brother or sister there also. i was glad to hear that. they have a cat door on the garage if they want to get out of the elements and a coal stove in the garage when it gets really cold. I think more than anything she was just seeking some attention and I suspect she'll be back every once in awhile if she gets too lonely. edited to say---shes actually back on my porch right now.

she spent all day yesterday on my front porch and is out there again right now. one tough thing there is that my front porch is where I feed the birds. the challenge for her is that my neighbors aren't presently living in the house. its one they are building and so company for poof is hit and miss. I know she's hungry and I feel terrible not feeding her but if I do feed her, then she stays here, and then when the weather gets really cold she'll go under my house as opposed to back home where her sister is.

If she is persistent as she seems to be this may take weeks. Home with sister doesn´t attract at present. Well, let´s hope for the best. I had a similar situation, with a neighbor cat I took in for a few days for a recuperation, but which I didn´t want to adopt.Ultimately the cat went back to her family and the neighbor.

Taking it easy today resting... even reading a book I got for free to own "2061: Odyssey Three" by Clarke. Also got his sequel "3001" free :) I think I'm getting better... my contusions and puncture wounds from twice slipped metal wedges into my right shin seem better also... took a day off from splitting rounds for the first time in a while. I only have strength for about an hour a day to maul through the wood rounds I still have, so a break isn't all that much.... Thank heavens for the last two weeks of mostly sunny weather, with a forecast of more of the same... Free vitamin D :)

tailor I missed the post somewhere on the travails you've recently experienced. if you want to do a quick summary, id be interested in hearing.

danik, I made a right proper cave for poof. all told, two tarps and ~half dozen sheets, blankets and sleeping bags over the tarps. she made it fine through the worst two nights and seems really well equipped for the cold. I think soon im going to dismantle everything and make a smaller shelter for her that will preserve her body heat better. im trust when the better weather is here and her owners come back to either work on, or hopefully live in the house, she'll mosey on back.

Googled it, there are several eating places, but Google insists with the description in Portuguese. Noticed that it is not usual sending orders by phone to the address of the customers. Here in São Paulo we have iFood that brings one food, supermarket or groceries and even medicines if one can't get out.

Healthwise: feeling better... a bit sore where I should be, but still a bit weak. Had some pizza out and a hearty dinner later. We have one person in my area that will do deliveries, not sure what he charges, but no businesses otherwise deliver to my address (very rural). The food attracts the cats, specially in winter. And cats have this talent for multiplying themselves. It worked better when you had only Spritzer and could keep her indoors. With the coming of spring I think these cats will disperse, but as long there is food on the porch you risk having a cat colony there. Maybe if you take the bowl away after poof has eaten, things will get better, as they are probably attracted by the smell of the food.

Observe if poof uses the new shelter. Before adopting my cat Babalu, I provided her with a small dog hut. She used the hut, but wasn't very comfortable in it, possibly because she didn't have an outlook on possible attackers. The food attracts other cats, but if it is only one you're able to manage it. we're in the dead of winter danik, so im pretty sure its poof with me until at least april. yes, she likes the shelter and its better than the previous one I had for her. there is inner shelter inside it that I don't think she's used yet. sometime soon im going to try to make that more inviting for her.
