Just so all of you know, Samuel Butler says on August 8, 1898 (please note the date) that "the reception of my recent book "The Authoress of the Odyssey," has convinced me that hte general reader much prefers the Latinized names of gods and heros to those which it has of late years been attempted to poularize: I have no heistation, therefore, in adhering to the nomenclature to which pope, Mr. Gladstone, and Lord Derby have long since familiarized the public." So for all of you who are so appalled at the translator's use of Roman names, keep in mind that this was translated in the late 1800's, so get over yourselves.
