1. I am really afraid of water and that's why I never learnt to swim.
2. I can't stand bananas, the very smell of them makes me sick.
3. Another thing that makes me sick is homosexuality. I think it's unnatural,
abnormal and unacceptable.
4. All three statements^ are true.
5. All the statements are utter :icon_bs:.

It's tomorrow - I should be studying, but LitNet is so distracting :D

It is.:D

And 5 is correct.

I like the fruity fragrance of bananas despite the fact that it'll make me sick if I try to eat more than half a banana.
I love water in all it's form.
The third statement is...well...utter:icon_bs:

tainaprincess, your turn.:)

You sure can.

There's not much to guess now.:p I'll take the only remaining option- 2.

tainaprincess
11-14-2010, 12:20 PM
And mrv, with the only remaining option, you have "guessed" the correct one. The only truth is #2.

mrv
11-14-2010, 01:43 PM
"Guessed" it right again! I'm so good at this! :p

It wasn't a real win. I think you won tainaprincess because nobody really guessed the correct answer. You can go again if you want to.

2) I've been buying a lot of books from Atlus Press lately
3) The last plane trip I took was to Nashville
4) I can't stand any of my neighbors
5) The last Nexflix movie I rented was Midsomer Murders

OK, the answer is; (drumroll!) #2! They started reprinting a lot of old pulp magazines. I'm in heaven!

As I said, as for #1, I eagerly look forward to the Green Hornet movie, I think it will be great!

As for #3: I recently went to Nashville, but we drove. I've never been on a plane!

As for #4: I have some neighbors I can't stand (who doesn't?) but others have been friends for 25 years or more.

As for #5: I recently went through season 1-15 of Midsomer Murders, but I got them from the local library. I've been getting Criminal Minds, seasons 1-5 from Netflix.

So you win, tainaprincess, and that means you are up next! :hurray::hurray::hurray:

tainaprincess

tainaprincess

It is #4.

1. I wish I had published my short story, but not yet.
2. I did meet my boyfriend online, but not through a website intended for those purposes, therefore, not a dating website.
3. The first half was correct, I just don't have any pets.
4. I met my boyfriend through facebook, a social networking site, through a couple of friends who wanted to hook us up.
5. To make sure that I do have time for my friends, I have a set time each week to hang out and catch up.

4) I like Gulliver's Travels, and marvel that Jonathan Swift wrote it as satire! (Very true!)

And we have a winner. Didn't you guys notice how I posted "only one is true, the rest are false"? Hee-hee!

Among the books I got in yesterday from amazon.com were the following books:

1) Who Fears the Devil? True: It is the tales of John the Balladeer by Manley Wade Wellman

2) HP Lovecraft's The Dunwitch Horror: False: I got an anthology with 50 tales among which was The Dunwitch Horror.

3) Sherlock Holmes and the King's Evil: False: Owned this book for about three years.

4) The Expanded Devil's Dictionary: False: Came in in a latter order

5) The Phantom Detective Companion: False: Not interested

So Snowqueen is up. Congrads!

So here's the rundown:

2) The Case of the Peerless Peer: Not released yet

3) Shadows Over Baker Street: The WINNER: It's a series of short stories bringing Holmes into the world of HP Lovecraft

4) The Case of the Many Missing Things: Hee. I doubt that many of you would know what a Big Little book is, but I collected them as a child and still have them here somewhere. This one starred The Flintstones.

5) The Great Hiatus : No such book

Real fictional detective? Let's see if I get what you mean.

Race Williams was a detective. Lamont Cranston and Richard Wentworth were both millionaire playboys. Sir _Henry_ Merrivale was a John Dickson Carr detective, but if you deliberately misspelled him as Harry to eliminate him, then he's out. Gordon Fell sounds familiar, but both Google and I are blanking on him.

So unless I'm missing something re. Fell, it would be Race, correct?

You are right, nice use of resources available, you might be a detective yourself.

The rundown:

1) Lamont Cranston was the Shadow but then The Shadow was not Lamont Cranston. Odd, right? Cranston and The Shadow, who by the way is really Kent Allard had a deal whereby they shared the Cranston identity, so not Lamont Cranston.

2) Race Williams was a fictional detective from the pulps written by Carroll John Daly. A new book has been released chronicling his adventures, so Race it is.

3) Doctor Gordon Fell sounds familiar because he is really Doctor Gideon Fell, created by John Dickson Carr, so not Gordon.

4) Sir Harry Merrivale as you suspected was deliberately a misspelling or variation on Sir Henry Merrivale, written by John Dickson Carr under the pseudonym of Carter Dickson, so not Sir Harry.

5) Richard Wentworth is the Spider, a violent vigilante more concerned with blowing criminals away instead of solving crimes and turning them over to the police. Not Wentworth then.

So you are up, Cal. Let us see if you are as brilliant at concealing the truth as revealing it! :hurray::hurray::hurray:

Cool. Here's mine. Apologies if my first try is too easy.

Everybody likes quoting movies, especially if they're Monty Python or The Princess Bride, but sometimes they get it wrong, and the misquote lives on. Following is a list of very famous misquotes from film, plus one that's actually accurate. Which one was spoken as-is in the movie?

1) “Top of the world, Ma!"

2) "Do you feel lucky, punk?"

3) “Badges? We don’t need no stinkin’ badges!”

4) “Magic mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?”

5) “Play it again, Sam”

I think it's III. Funny scene.

Buzzzz! Sorry, incorrect. Though "funny scene" makes me wonder if you're thinking of Blazing Saddles, where they might have said it like that. The original, however, is from Treasure of the Sierra Madre, and goes like this:

“Badges? We ain’t got no badges. We don’t need no badges. I don’t have to show you any stinkin’ badges!”

If the link below survives the post, you can hear it as well:

Calidore

Dingdingding! Correct. #4 is usually misquoted as "Mirror, mirror...", but I posted the correct version. Others are:

1) "Made it, Ma. Top of the world!"

http://www.filmsite.org/wavfiles/whiteheat.wav

2) "...you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya punk?"

http://www.filmsite.org/wavfiles/dirtyharry3.wav

5) "You played it for her, you can play it for me...If she can stand it, I can. Play it!"

I have been in a couple of casual bands, and like many bands, we changed our name far too often. Of the following six band names, which one was I never in:

I. The Electric Preachers
II. Two Face Moon Face
III. To Face Moon Face
IV. He and His Backing Band
V. Captain Midnight and the Sapphire Dream
VI. The Flights

MatthewFarlow

Ding Ding. We have a winner!

I. The Electric Preachers (My first gig was with this two man rap group at some bar that payed us in peanuts. We got the name by filling up a cup with adjectives and another full of nouns and whatever we picked from each would sum to our name.)

II. Two Face Moon Face (I was looking around the room at a practice, as we were coming up with name suggestions, and saw a mural with a half sun half moon face on the wall and blurted out Two Face Moon Face. It stuck.)

III. To Face Moon Face (Our guitarist thought that we were saying To Face Moon Face, like to face a villain named Moonface, and told everyone that was the new name. That stuck.)

IV. He and His Backing Band (I just thought this was the simplest, cool sounding band name ever, and still do. Just the music sucked...)

V. Captain Midnight and the Sapphire Dream (In college I hosted a radio show with a few friends. It was from 11pm to 12am. We would play a (somewhat) improvised selection of songs. No idea where the rest of the band name came from, but Captain Midnight was my DJ-ing alias)

VI. The Flights (Made up. Sounds plausible though.)

Therefore, Pensive wins this round.

Calidore

Well, with only one choice remaining and the winner already decided, no point in waiting further. So, counting down:

5. Yep, I've flown a few times, but not since I was a teenager. Once I'd tried a cross-country train to California, I was hooked, and I haven't flown since.

4. Once--a tonsillectomy at age 3. Very minor, but it still involves parts being removed with a sharp instrument, so it counts.

3. Not too long back I spent a couple of years being taught classical guitar by an uncle. I'd like to get back to that at some point.

2. As a child I went to the local YMCA for "gym & swim" classes, and had gone through the top swimming level (porpoise) twice by the time I was done. So, quite a good swimmer at one time.

1. (Winner, Pendragon!--though why were you talking about swimming?)

I have never learned to drive for several reasons: At the time most of my peers were learning, I had other things I preferred doing, like playing around on the computers after school (Radio Shack TRS-80s at the time). Since then, it has been due to a combination of the growing arrogance and stupidity I see from other drivers on the street (including many more distractions then when I was a child, like cell phones, MP3 players, etc.); my own easily distracted nature--I tend to take in all my surroundings rather than focus on one thing, like the road in front; the hideous expense of owning a car, fueling it, insurance, etc.; and the extensive local public transportation system that makes driving pretty much unnecessary. Yes, there are times a car would be useful, but I get by fine without one. I do have a dream car in mind, though, just in case.

Congratulations, Pendragon, you're up.

McGyver would be my choice, however, you've spelled it incorrectly, so either you are revealing that it's the incorrect choice by default, or you are not a fan of it, (because a fan would know how to spell it).

So, as I see it, my only options are the last two, neither of which I know anything about. But Torchwood sounds like it comes from the fantasy genre and since you have named yourself the equivalent to 'dragon chief', I can infer that you like fantasy. So I have arrived at a decision:

Number Four, Torchwood.

Torchwood is actually a Doctor Who spinoff (note that the name's an anagram). It's good but very different, being Earth-bound, team-based, and much more adult.

I saw one episode of The Closer, and it was pretty good, so I'll pick that.

No, can't stand it, and my misspelling of McGyver is a result of being slightly dyslectic...

Somehow the actress that plays The Closer creeps me out. I don't like it.

I'll say Charmed...

I'll say Charmed... It has a little too much black magic in it, so nope!

2 more choices...

The other one (I've lost track).

Number 1.

1: Right! always go with your gut feeling, Matt, even if I cannot spell. I just bought all seven seasons on DVD.

2: As I said, too much black magic for me

3:Blech! Cannot stand this at all!

4: I really cannot stand Captain Jack and it has nothing to do with his bi-sexuality. The Doctor's living arm in that jar is also a no-no

5: The actress creeps me out.

You're up, Matthew, and would have been earlier had you followed your highly toned instincts!

Matthew's turn!

Matt, the point of winning is to continue the game. Please? Pretty please? With sugar on top? Steak dinner? Cash? Credit Card? PayPal?:lol::lol:

Where did I live? Meaning I moved all of my possessions there and payed rent.

1. In a haunted house.
2. In a grain silo.
3. Above a theatre.
4. Above a merry-go-round.
5. In a Swiss ski lodge.

I like number one. I lived in a haunted house myself. Wasn't too bad, we just shut off the room where the disturbances were, and it left us alone. Now am I kidding or not kidding? You choose, oh reader!

Number one, then Matt

Small theaters can have apartments or offices on top, so I'll take #3.

I'm going to disappear for a while, so I thought that I ought to leave the answer here so that the game can continue.

My uncle actually lived there and when I moved to California I lived with him for about two months. (We split the rent).

Well, I'll restart it then. It was number four: I lived in a merry-go-round.

I prefer to use:
1. Binder clips
2. Paper clips
3. Staples
to keep papers together.
