Maybe the moderator can be so kind as to give every one 50 additional coins across the board, including those out, and maybe we can all continue to play?

Ooo that smacks of socialism, welfare handouts and a denial of personal responsibility.
Instead we could go the good old western capitalist route and go into debt. so I would be -14 Hardy's at the moment.
Hey there, newbie. It is the exclamation point at the end that really stings, and it just keeps on stinging as the days pass. Hardly necessary.
Neely early on offered to lend me some of his riches, btw. Imagine how I could have leveraged my suffering with that... For the record, I'd just like everyone to know: I am the only one that has managed perfection in making wrong predictions. Just me.
Think it's easy?
I'm running you close, with just two correct predictions.

Well, I have to bet.
Holland to win ~ 5 Conrads
Ghana to win ~ 5 Conrads
Cameroon/Denmark Draw ~ 5 Conrads
As to that USA goal that was disallowed, the referee is under review:
JOHANNESBURG – The referee who disallowed a potential game-winning goal for the United States will face an expedited performance review from FIFA and is likely to be excluded from the rest of the World Cup, according to a FIFA source.
Koman Coulibaly from Mali disallowed Maurice Edu’s 86th-minute strike that would have given the USA a 3-2 lead over Slovenia at Ellis Park and likely would have led to a thrilling comeback victory Friday. Coulibaly appeared to rule that American midfielder Michael Bradley had impeded a Slovenian defender, even though video replays showed no infringement.

What a horrible call that really cost the US a victory.

:nopity:I am not sure if that would be fair at this stage in the game; however, what we can do is that at the end of this round, when the teams move up, we can give everyone another 100 coins to refresh the game. So, those who are still in the game would get their reward and those who are out get a chance to rejoin.
I am betting for today:

Oh my God, do the Dutch always play such a boring game? What is it with passing backwards for that often? I saw they had a 79% posession at one point, and I bet 66% was back and forth in the backfied between the defenders and the goalie. That had to be the most boring half of the world cup to date. At least Japan tried at times. I bet on the Dutch but frankly I hope they lose.

Virgil,
You most certainly know more about football than I do as I am not paticularly interested in it. However, I did see that disallowed US goal and was amazed that it was ruled out. The Slovenian players would be better off playing rugby by the way they literally grappled US players to the ground. I am astounded that their behaviour was allowed by the referee. The US should have the goal allowed and the tournament proceed from thereon in.
As your video clip implies, the referee may have had his own reasons to fix the game in favour of a draw.

Yes it is certaily the worst decision of the world cup so far.
Virgil, the dutch are famed for their fast flowing attacking style, they usually push forward relentlessly and are often extremely good to watch. However, this side for whatever reason seem pretty dull. Surely they must come out stronger in the second half though? I've been disappointed in the European teams this world cup, though to be fair the records show that European sides outside of Europe do not perform well in the world cup.

Perhaps we should be investing our hard earned dosh in shares of a certain supermarket chain: according to The Independent on Friday, this chain is reporting a huge increase in the sale of garlic bread. They attribute this to people eating at home so that they can watch the footie on tv, rather than going out for a meal. The reporter also speculates that in view of this phenomenon, the expected rise in the birthrate in nine months' time - as happened after the last World Cup apparently - is now less likely to take place.....

Spain will be awesome tonight against lowly Honduras, they are going to play 4-4-2 and come out attacking, expect a magic display of football just like Brazil last night. I thought Brazil looked outstanding, strong at the back and brilliant going forward - still my favourites to win - I hope you took advantage of the free betting account money I posted before, £100's coming my way, he, he...

So, those who are still in the game would get their reward and those who are out get a chance to rejoin. So, before Saturday's games, everyone will be issued 100 extra Shaws.
Neely> Go and open a bottle of Belgian or read some Wilde. You can do this. No more betting for you here till Saturday.

N.Korea is playing so well (admittedly they are not as good as their first match).
I am constantly in awe of these lesser known teams and am hoping that in future tournaments, they will make their presence felt even more.

Strange business.
Some really deluded types here think we can maybe draw with Paraguay as well in our group, which has raised the thought of what happens in a group if teams end on identical points.
Turns out, some official draws a name out of a hat!
I find that unbelievable.
A team could easily work for four years, fight for three points, only to be told they go home because some bloke who probably never played the game eliminated them on a coin toss!

Yeah that would indeed suck, yet what alternative is there? Flying the teams together for a rematch or a penalty shootout would disturb the tournament time schedule. Additionally, if a team can't even get enough points to clearly get second in a group, then they gotta expect losing to a coin toss..
As a side note, has anyone noticed how outrageously bad and biased the referee in Switzerland vs. Chile was?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/world_cup_2010/8752637.stm
Anyone who knows what happened in November probably understands why their actions are annoying me. They didnt deserve to be there in the first place, they are proving they didnt deserve to be there in the first place and their behaviour and lack of care about being there while ruining their chances of winning or proceeding, has angered me. Getting into the World Cup meant alot to my country and because of the cheating French, we were denied it FIFAs lack of care in "fair play" meant we werent taken seriously when complaining against their precious France. Wonder what they are thinking now. I hope they are cursing their judgement and mockary of the ROIs appeals. Karma is biting them in the bottom!:incazzato:

It is only as a very last resort though. It comes down to points, goal difference, goals scored, result in the head-to-head before lots are drawn. It has only happened once in World Cup history. In the case of New Zealand they would have to draw with Paraguay and Italy would have to draw to Slovakia with the same scoreline for that to happen. So if NZ drew 1-1 and Italy drew 0-0 NZ would go through on goals scored. So lots are unlikely to happen. If they did draw them though and it was between Italy and New Zealand for the lots I wouldn't fancy your chances on the "50/50" though if you know what I mean, sorry to say...
Ah yes the French are absolutely mad, the whole thing is like to cheap soap opera, a bunch of babies if you ask me. I had to laugh the other day when I read that one of the players Gourcuff didn't get on with anybody else (or they didn't get on with him) and they refused to sit with him at meal times, and get this, refused to share playstation 3 time with him.:biggrinjester::lol::lol:

France have been dreadful on and off the field. A pity because they have some very good players but it is poetic justice in a way if they go out as they got there by dubious means. What will happen the North Koreans? A spell in the gulag. They are probably mainly military/police thugs so if they "vanish" they might meet some of their former victims. I have no idea how these matches will go as this tournament has already seen enough surprises.
As much as I wished England to go through, now I am thinking that they do not actually deserve to.
Slovenia coach Matjaz Kek described qualification for South Africa as "a fairytale ending from a Hollywood movie," and a point on Wednesday would take the smallest country at the World Cup through to the last 16. In contrast, England's campaign has the feel of a second-rate black comedy, despite the presence of a supposedly A-list cast.http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/world_cup_2010/matches/match_37

This I'm a bit confused on, and I'll confess to knowing little about football other than the very basics. I don't really understand the tournament ranking in the World Cup. The USA and England are tied for points, so why is it that the USA won the group???
I'm certainly not complaining since the USA advanced past this stage, which is pretty rare I believe, but I just don't get why they took the group or the implications of the tie between them.

The USA scored 5, I think, and England only 2 (and still managed to go through :-/)

:mad2: I've just worked out that if we beat the German's I will completely miss the quarter final, probably against Argentina, nooooooo. I'll be in London at the opera instead. I blame the USA for that, if they hadn't have scored we would have played on Saturday instead and faced Ghana to boot! Damn you.
Edit: Also I'm still not happy about being held back credits, it's a conspiracy just so I can't win. Snowqueen, any spare change?

I was sure England were going to win today despite the media frenzy after a poor performance against Algeria. You only have to look back at qualification to see how good they can be, and Don Fabio is clearly no mug with all his trophies and experience.
Gerrard still played on the left - and played well - and they still had the basic 4-4-2 that had been so heavily criticised. At least Don Fabio knows what he's doing - unless of course it was Mick's jinx prediction that did it.
It's very easy to get swept up in the disappointment and negativity caused by a blip. (I think it goes for all aspects the the news media turn their eye to). Daftness abounds.

Yeah, on the one hand I kind of understood Rooney on the field, getting kicked by his own fans, and saying "Thanks for nothing." On the other hand, it was an excruciating 90-minute blip.

I'm not betting on the remaining game...
Very wise.
All form says we should lose badly to a Paraguay that is playing well, and surely, our amateurs can't keep up their incredible run...
One player who will be running is Ryan Nelsen, who has had a stomach virus yesterday and today. Given how contagious those things are, the likelihood of others copping a dose is high.

Why is the 1995 World Cup significant?
10 of the 15 went down with a bug 48 hours before the final. It's a hot topic over here even now as some believe it was deliberate food poisoning because RSA were so desperate to win.
I have to say fair play to NZ. They showed they have worth. Its a shame they didnt make it to the next round.
I see Ryan Nelsen reckons he was only playing at 40% and he's our best player by a country mile, being the only premier division player in the side, but I don't know that having him at 100% would have made much difference.
I think they went in with the wrong game plan, being too defence oriented. The thing we needed was to score goals, not to stop Paraguay, but they'll live & learn.

At this stage, there are not draws. If the tie is not broken at the end of the game, the teams will play an extra 30 minutes. If there is still no winner, it will be determined by penalty shootouts.

Hey, leave it alone, there is something of the aura attached to it for me, I love it!
Speaking of auras, am I the only one who things that Maradona has this powerful aura attached to him? In the same way as Pele or perhaps more so, I see him as a sort of living legend, I mean just look at how the camera loves him, there is something powerful, magnetic, about the man for me. I know in the past he as bent the truth on the pitch (but all in the cause of his country) and he has had issues with drugs and mental stability and all of that, but still I feel he has a fascinating personality; I'd really like to meet the man.

The World Cup may not be a cup, but at least the 'world' part of it is accurate and honest. Unlike, for instance, the World Series. When the Nottingham Sheriffs are given the opportunity to make it to the Superbowl, then you can call it a World Series.

No mucking around as I reckon there is one certainty in tomorrow's games, Holland beating Slovakia.
150 on Netherlands.

Germany vs England - England 50 Shelleys
Argentina vs Mexico - Argentina 50 Shelleys
Great games yesterday - pity that the USA went out - it was close. I thought they were going to get it in the second half.
Come on England!!!!!!!

I see I've missed a day, thanks Scheh - put me in for 50 on Argentina and I'll leave the 150 on Holland for the next round of games.

Shame about England's goal but Germany is so obviously the better team. I am surprised they are not up by 4 goalds by now.

What a tragedy !!!
Am so sad for England.. !!!:cryin:
Hopefully Germany will be kicked out by Argentina ...
The only one who is happy in here is Scher.. by betting 100 on Germany :sosp:- Its like he knew it
I hate Rooney .. i hate the referee !!!

Why don't they have more referees? It seems impossible for one to cover the entire field. At a minimum they should have one for each haf of the field. Anyway it was a pity on that bad call, but I think the game would have turned out the same.

England were atrocious! Glad they are out. Wish i'd betted more than 10 on Germany.

I'm not surprised, but it would've been great to see them win, and I'd hate to have bet against them if they had won. I think England started their best (uninjured) defenders, and that says it all. (Well, also, what happened to Rooney?) Germany has some really skillful and athletic players.

Germany really did have an outstanding passing game and they were agreesive on on offense. But I think their defense might hold them back from winning it all. They seemed afraid to get physical and they seem to lack muscle back there. Very good show by the Germans!

God !!! Its just this Klose and Muller are so fast in reaching the goal .

Arrrggggghhhhh - the rollercoater that is the England fan's curse has come to pass again.
Well played Germany - they deserved to win. Kilted's comment ages ago about Rooney being the invisible man has been true all through the competition.
I just can't understand why FIFA hasn't got the technology like video referees that they have in Rugby League and goalline technology.
I don't think it would have changed the outcome had England gone 2-2 on that performance. Germany were much more consistent. Anyway - it's a kind of relief. I can just enjoy the competition now.
The only question is:
What do I do with the flags blowing on the back of my bicycle. I know - I'll keep them on there - there's always the next time...:biggrin5:

Tennis games have a good technology with the eagle's eye,, I really wonder too why not using it.. it makes difference ..
Maybe knowing that its 2-2 .. would give a push for the players .. !! MAYBE

Very upset.
Got my brain money on Brazil, Spain, Germany and Argentina but my heart is, was, with England of course.
Capello must go.
Technology must be employed.
Putting all my remaining credits on the Argentinian win.

Chin up Neely old chap. I can see you're upset by the truncated sentences that lack your usual florish - much like Rooneys game. At least we can just enjoy the cup without the heartache.

They need it. We brought it up after the French match back in november and FIFA (AKA Blatter) said no way. Football doesnt need it. Clearly from watching the games over the last few weeks its safe to say they do...

Back in the 2006 World Cup, England had an exciting young striker - I can't remember his name - and I thought for sure he would be here in 2010. I think he was only 18 years old. What ever happened to him? Why didn't he make the club?
