Hi there,
I'm desperately trying to find a couple of short stories that I have read years ago - I've been combing through all the old books I can think of and searching on Google but haven't been able to find anything. I remember quite a lot about them, and if either of these sounds familiar to you then please let me know!
1) Story (thought it was actually called Glimpses) about a married man with children who starts to see glimpses when he meets a young beautiful woman (I think through art dealership potentially) of what he thinks is the life he could potentially have had. Eventually after going for lunches he can't afford, and him buying clothes he really can't afford either to impress her which he keeps in a luggage locker he is either found out by the luggage tag or confesses to his wife that he is leaving her for the younger woman. He then arrives at her flat to find out that she is pregnant. I.e. the strangely familiar glimpses were of his old younger irresponsible life, not his destiny.
2) Is about an observer at a restaurant with a wine expert friend, a new money Lord whose father I think was a great wine collector, makes his friend a bet that he won't be able to guess the wine from his cellar. He goes along as a witness, friend gets them all wrong but then a servant from the house actually brings along the correct wines to the restaurant, and they were being substituted with fake wines the whole time. This is an old fashioned story in terms of position in society etc etc.
If anyone has any leads on either of these stories I would much appreciate it!
Thanks :)
