I dedicated this poem to my twin sister Judy.
Who would I be, if I wasn't me.
Our mother's love lost before we were three.
Cast away branches, you and me.
Cast away branches from our father's tree.
And who would I be if I wasn't me?
Tossed to a family by a court's decree.
Our future, our welfare; not an issue, you see.
We were just two needed pieces; two pawns in their game.
With deceit and lies abounding, just adding to their shame.
And if things had been different, would we be the same?
Had known another family, worn a different last name?
Our memories would have been altered, that is certainly true.
Would that have changed who we are, me and you?
It's a question never to be answered; a forever mystery.
Still, I wonder who I might be; if I wasn't me.
Fond memories of our childhood? No, there is none to be found there.
Was there anyone interested, did anyone care?
And as I ponder these questions; entertained just for awhile.
These thoughts bring forth a brief grin; then transform into a smile.
For I know that who we are, was designed from above.
With God's protection upon us, and his immeasurable love.
So, we are the persons that we are supposed to be.
But, just for a moment; I still wonder, you see.
Who would I be, if I wasn't me?
Who would I be, if I wasn't me.
Our mother's love lost before we were three.
Cast away branches, you and me.
Cast away branches from our father's tree.
And who would I be if I wasn't me?
Tossed to a family by a court's decree.
