I'm considering putting this on my reading list. I've read that his writing is comparable to Nabokov whom I'm not too familiar with but I have read Lollita a while back. Any way, I've read the first chapter and found it a bit dull. However, I realize that I can't judge any novel based on a few pages, at the same time I have so many other books on my plate that I don't want to invest much time in some thing I won't end up finishing. It's quite a short read so I'm a bit torn. To read or not to read?

I wouldn't compare it to Nabokov. It was a good read, but not a great work. Banville's prose is outstanding. I had a bit of a problem with the story's crux, but it was enjoyable if you enjoy complex fiction. Anyway it was a book forum discussion last year and you can read that discussion here: http://www.online-literature.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35962.
