Just some simple things... well, my grammar is good but not perfect... but learning some simple things in school when I was a youngster really helped me to avoid repeating simple mistakes thousands of times! :p

One is, though not what I had in mind at first... anyway, it would be the contraction of "you are" to the wore "you're." Any time you want to say "you are" as one word, it's "you're." It's never "your"!

Let's see...

What I had in mind at first was "etc."

Etc. is 3 letters, ending with a period, even if it's in the middle of a sentence.

So a valid sentence would be; "I know you listen to rock bands like Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, etc., but do you like Mozart?"

And etc. is short for "et cetera" which is Latin. And it's pronounced "et cetera." :)

Another are the abbreviations "i.e." and "e.g." - they're both short for Latin phrases, I forget the exact Latin words; but i.e. basically means "in other words," or "that is"... and e.g. basically means "for example."

I just notice that people get these confused sometimes and knowing the difference is pretty easy, just as long as you make a point to remember..

But I figured a thread would be useful so we could all imrpove our grammar skills! :)
