{This poem is for my sister}

bloom of magnolia
Delicate, hanging on a breath
Will it be warm
kind to you
Will it be cold
Make you drop your petals?

I tell you
you blossom too early
for your own good
Naivete's loveliest form-
Your grace will not protect you

A hard wind
an early spring storm
Girl, you've gone to pieces
your precious petals
bruised

Shaken hard by this world
plucked by careless hands
Your beauty in upraised flowers
velvety petals already browning in the sun

Magnolia Girl
Magnolia Girl
what of your twisted gray trunk
your roots twining in the dirt
or the gnarled stump you'll leave behind?

When your flowers die-
When your scent withers-
When winter comes-
I tell you everything ugly endures

An excellent poem! :) However, I think the lines:
I tell you
you blossom too early
for your own good

take away the magic somewhat. But it does come back the next stanza after.

This is very good; powerful and imaginative. The final stanza is particularly haunting, and the repetition works well.

Well, your sister is lucky to have such a poem written for her ;) Nice job!

Hope your sister makes it through, darlin'- they aren't all made of steel! This certainly is a poem that highlights reality through fantasy. It's always so scary, I swear - I have two little sisters, and while they're blooming beautifully (and that they're blooming beautifully is what's so scary), I do hope they take life slow, savor it, sip the tea- don't chug.

(And it's crazy you wrote this, because having the same thought a couple years back, I wrote a lullaby, and this is a piece of it:

Bittersweet wishes
And dancing 'round fire,
The scent of her catches
A man's dark desire.
Passions are wild,
Though she's still a child -
Yet beauty won't shelter
Youth from age.)

Awesome job, Cellar!!! :D (I do love magnolias too)

Thank you everyone!

Silas, I think you're right about those lines, gotta make some changes...

Lokasenna, you never seem to have anything bad to say about anyone's poems. You have a kind heart.

Sapphire- I hope she thinks so too; usually I just annoy her with my advice

Wispy- Glad someone can relate, btw, I love your lines!

Thanks again everyone!
