{This poem is for my sister}
bloom of magnolia
Delicate, hanging on a breath
Will it be warm
kind to you
Will it be cold
Make you drop your petals?
I tell you
you blossom too early
for your own good
Naivete's loveliest form-
Your grace will not protect you
A hard wind
an early spring storm
Girl, you've gone to pieces
your precious petals
bruised
Shaken hard by this world
plucked by careless hands
Your beauty in upraised flowers
velvety petals already browning in the sun
Magnolia Girl
Magnolia Girl
what of your twisted gray trunk
your roots twining in the dirt
or the gnarled stump you'll leave behind?
When your flowers die-
When your scent withers-
When winter comes-
I tell you everything ugly endures
bloom of magnolia
Delicate, hanging on a breath
Will it be warm
kind to you
Will it be cold
Make you drop your petals?
I tell you
you blossom too early
for your own good
Naivete's loveliest form-
Your grace will not protect you
A hard wind
an early spring storm
Girl, you've gone to pieces
your precious petals
bruised
Shaken hard by this world
plucked by careless hands
Your beauty in upraised flowers
velvety petals already browning in the sun
Magnolia Girl
Magnolia Girl
what of your twisted gray trunk
your roots twining in the dirt
or the gnarled stump you'll leave behind?
When your flowers die-
When your scent withers-
When winter comes-
I tell you everything ugly endures
