Hi,
Just the other day, I ruined the ending of "Death Proof/Planet Terror" for my friend and he got really pissed off at me almost as if I insulted his mom. Before this event, I had never realized how much the "element of surprise" in a story mattered to people. In fact, it has never bothered me once when someone told me the complete synopsis of a story before I experienced it. Honestly I could not care less if I knew about every plot twist or scene of suspense before it happened.
Does anyone else feel this way? I hope I'm not the only weirdo... :(

In certain movies. But I don't think plot spoilers would ruin movies such as Grindhouse.

kind of depends on the book. if it's well written (and therefore a joy to read) then i could care less if the plot is ruined for me. maybe i'm weird too...oh wait...ya i am.

I hate it when people try to describe a book or movie to me that I have not read or seen!! I don't want to know anything about it other than it might interest me, what the genre is, and who the author or actors might be. :flare:
Of course, I am also one of those people who don't want to know what I am getting for Christmas until Christmas morning. I won't go looking for hidden gifts, and won't pick up the packages and shake them. My younger siblings used to chase me through the house during the holidays, threatening to tell me what my presents were.:D

Actually, now that I think about it, no it doesn't bother me. I enjoy most books even more the second or third time around. This is doubly so for movies because you tend to catch things that you missed the first time through. Knowing what is going to happen allows me to appreciate the style in which the events are portrayed, and to more thoroughly contemplate their meaning because I can observe characters' actions with knowledge of how those actions will effect them later. That being said I don't go out of my way to learn the ending, it's just no big deal if I stumble upon it ahead of time.
Of course most of the books and movies I watch several times are ones that I enjoyed the first time. A book like the Da Vinci Code, which was fun but will likely never again leave my shelf, would probably be nothing without suspense generated by twists.

I pretty much completely agree with post #5.
Good writing is good writing.
Suspense is not something I really look for in books. I am more concerned with "replay value", as the video game critics say...

It doesn't bother me either - I forget!!! and I suppose people whom it bothers can't re-read books either, whereas I do a lot of that with my favourites!!
