View Full Version : Lit Net Blogs: Have a favorite?

I blog, yes I admit it. The blogs here on Lit Net have been going on for just over a year. I have to admit that I find the blog to be a great way to express yourself in a more intimate manner. I know there are a lot of people that blog regularly, and I feel that its been a great way to unify some friendships, and share things. Recently, I read a wonderful story in the blogs, and I feel that some of these entries should probably get more attention.

I'm starting this thread so people can link a blog that they think is exceptional to share with other people. Feel free to comment in this thread too.

I'm going to link the entry that motivated me to start this thread...http://www.online-literature.com/forums/blogs/viewblog.php?userid=4887&entry=3785

I love this entry...It deserves a larger audience. Way to go Aimus!

Why do people feel they are so interesting and smart and have great need to blog?

Why do people feel they are so interesting and smart and have great need to blog?

Poeple who blog don't necessarily think they are that interesting. They like being read, of course, but they might also blog so that they will leave a trace of memories that they'll be able to read again later, and compare who they were at the time with who they are today. I've written diaries, not on the net though, but I have written diaries for someone else to read, so they were not private diaries. I stopped after having written 17 notebooks, during several years. The person who read my 17 notebooks also wrote 17 notebooks for me to read. That was quite cool.

Here, I love Granny's blog and MotherHubbard's blog because their family life just interests me. But my favorite blog is Bluebiird's blog, I just love it very much, it reads like a book, and I guess I'm interested in her life because I recognize myself in her on many points. It is very interesting to see how people can have the same fears and angers as you. It is reassuring to find that there are people out there who are similar to you. Plus, her blog is well written and I always want to know the following.:)

I agree with you there B. More people should read the entries in that blog of Aimus'.
Shalots blog is neat.

Wow!! :D Thanks, I didn't quite expect this. :)

As for me favourite blogs, I don't know, I don't really have a personal favourite, although I tend to prefer the ones that focus less on the personal. Stories are always fun to read.

Oh, and little snippets of insight, that's awesome too.

That's kind of you :) I enjoy writing it, and I guess mine falls into the category of online personal journal for all the world to see and I wish I had other things to talk about. maybe in time I can come up with some different kinds of entries.

One of the ones I enjoy reading a lot is Lily Adams blog - she's got a sentence in there about plastics and I think that must be the best sentence I have read all year.

Other ones that stand out to me are kiz paws and Niamh's with all ther great photos and Bakiryu's and BulletproofDorks and andave_ya's. I like reading the ones from the younger crowd - it makes me wish I was in high school again.

I don't get to read too many of them right now because I am busy but opposite Shalot I like to read a lot of the older members' blogs...they have so much to teach. I like seeing the poems and pictures too. I cannot remember now who had the surgery on his head but ohh my goodness!

Really I just like to know that there are people like me behind the avatars and names.

I'm not sure I have a favorite. I tend to read a cross section. I don't reply to all, but that doesn't mean I don't read them. Rich's (mtpspur) is the classic, a web of intriguing details and off beat humor. Frankly he must spend way too much time writing them, because so many seem like perfectly constructed pieces, little works of art, if the art of blogging exists.

Let me also put in a nice note on Dark Muse's blog. Her little poetic fragments are so intriguing, something like a shard of poetry recovered from cracked ancient pottery. Plus she has this quote which is an all time classic quote that should be listed as a famous quote: "Just becasue I have breasts does not give me magical powers over infants."

Lemmesee, my favorite blogs are mtpspur's, Countess's, Bulletproof's (what can I say? I'm far and away too proud of her! :p) and Virgil's, though he doesn't post very often.

Why thank you Andy. I wish I could blog more, but it doesn't seem to come natural for me. And let me say i enjoy yours too, especially the essays that you publish in your school newspaper. Very well written.

But I have to say I have the cutest picture in my blog. Entry #14 if you haven't seen it. ;)

For the record I read in no particular order McHockenberry, Pendragon, Grace86, Andave Ya and Bulletproof, B-Mental, Countess, Kiz Paws, Virgil, Capt Pike, Bakiyu, Stephofthe night, Shannigan and others. The poets tend to throw me off stride as I have no great grasp of the material. And we mustn't forget BalmyBlueBiird whose print font changes the bifocals on a regular basis--I will finish her entry in one sitting I will finish--hey what's that wavy blue line going off the page-----

I was kind of hoping to make this a thread for favorite entries, because I read the linked one of Aimus' and I was flattened. It makes me want to write! Seriously. I blog because it was added to the site, and I wanted to participate. It has been better than I thought. I like to put down whats going on, and sometimes a good story comes to me that I want to share.

I have to admit that there are some blogs that I look forward to everytime...Mtpspur, Countess, mkhockenberry, Virgil (who doesn't blog enough, lol), kizpaws, and of course I'm gaining ground on jon1lit, Bakiryu, Shalot, Nikolai and others. I love some of the entries, and really do appreciate the time people spend on their stories, poems, insights and just daily grind BS that you don't know about other members.

This is a literature forum, and a number of people write too. I haven't looked for a writer's forum...if I wanted writers to tell me how bad I write, I would. I want readers to say something.

Thank you knidly B-M and to all who mentioned mine. I didn't think my blog was all that interesting. I'll make more of an effort to write. I actually enjoy commenting on people's blog. Something they say will stimulate a thought or a memory and if my experience can help someone then that actually makes me happy.

Note to Logos: Is there a way to sort through our replies to blogs? I know we can sort our blog entries, but sometimes when I comment on someone's entry I sometimes want to go back and see if that person replied or someone else picked up on my comment. But with all the blogs I forget when and who i may have commented in. It would be nice to sort through my comments to other's blogs. Is that possible?

Logos
11-30-2007, 12:23 PM
Virgil, as far as I can see, specifically sorting or tracking your own comments in others' blogs is not a function of this vBlogetin software version. It's a great idea though. There is an update in the works, it might include more control over comments. I'm keeping an eye on it.

A couple of things you can do: click on the "Entry Tools" link, top right, of the specific entry you commented on and select "Subscribe to This Entry". Then you can get (if you wish) instant (or daily or weekly updates) notification emails of any new comments to it. Yes you can also subscribe to your own blog entries :) The email contains the comment and a handy link to it. To change or delete Entry Subscriptions, go into your User Control Panel (upper left corner of screen), click on "Entry Subscriptions" (left-side menu).

You could also bookmark your favourite blogs so you've got a quick link to their main page, where, if the owner has the Recent Comments Block enabled it will show on their main page somewhere; for example, my Recent Comments Block shows at the top left of my blog (http://www.online-literature.com/forums/blogs/viewblog.php?userid=2229), Shurtugal has her Recent Comments Block displaying at the top of her blog's main page (http://www.online-literature.com/forums/blogs/viewblog.php?userid=34934)

I think you're spot on about mtpspur and his blog :) B-Mental, as for having a favourite blog or blog entry? they're all my favourites ! ... :D just sorry I don't have more time to comment. I love to see that some have started their first-ever blog with LitNet; or that they're posting new poems or stories and such that they otherwise are too shy to post in the forums :)

B, you are so right when you highlighted Aimus's story, I really enjoyed that too!

But for favorite Blogs/Blog entries, wow, there are so many wonderful entries to choose from. I really love the style of writing that we are blessed with in the Blog of Captain Pike. What a delightful blog he has.

I look forward to the continuing adventures of mtpspur, he has such a wonderful way of relating the adventures in his life, love it.

But I really get a kick out of Baki's blog, Countess, Jon, Lily, the FifthElement, I miss GreyFoxDown's postcards, and the list goes on -- I check all the blogs out when time enables, as I love to get to know the members here through the blogs.

But to answer the question that was posed -- why do people blog? Well, I cannot answer for the majority, but I can say why I blog. When I blog, I feel that I am giving a piece of myself to the world (as the whole world has access to the blog). Sometimes I want to talk about things that are important to me, and sometimes I just want to vent my thoughts. Sometimes I want to share ideas that I have, and sometimes I just want to give you an insight into just who I am, and even a photo or two (or three, lol). But I never make a pretense to be knowledgeable or anything like that. Just musings from a Prairie Girl.

So keep on blogging, people! It is good fun, and if anything else, it FORCES us to both WRITE and to READ. And that is what it is all about!

Cheers for reading this, er, lengthy post! :) And a big thank you for those who mentioned my blog, that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy! :)

I love reading the blogs and don't really have many favorites, it's cool to hear from everyone.

I enjoy reading Granny5's and M-hubbard's Blogs as well as Bailey's and Shurtz. NicolaiI's blog is always very interesting, very mystical and Kiz has beautiful pictures.

the list goes on I fear......

Many thanks to those who said they actually like -*faints!*- my blog?
I'm surprise people even actually read it!

thanks Andave Ya--I lost track of grayfox when an e-mail/site listing he gave me wouldn't come up. Sent him a query and it's like waiting for the Avengers to go back to original numbering. Hasn't happened. Thanks again. I'll try it when I get home tonight from work.

The blog of Amuse is a totally awesome collection of the prettiest poetry. It takes quite a few 'turns' on my computer to go through it, but have enjoyed the collection immensely. It is difficult to chose a favorite in a collection such as this. Anyhow, thought that I'd mention it here.

Yeah, I agree. Its too bad she doesn't get on enough. She had a lot of great poems in the poetry place, and then Admin rolled them into blogs...which is cool, but she probably doesn't even know about it.

I just set up my blog for those who haven't already taken a look. I just thought I might advertise it a little :D . It an be viewed here (http://www.online-literature.com/forums/blogs/viewblog.php?userid=36003). I have an introduction posted along with some epigrams of mine.

Although I'm far from being well-read as far as blogs go, I think PeterL's blog is interesting, to say the least.

I just discovered Captain Pike's blog tonight. Well, it seems like I may have posted there once before, but I am not sure so don't hold me to that. But tonight, I read through several entries. I am not finished with it yet, but it is very well written, very entertaining at times and very informative as well. Above all, it's inspirational and I think this one shouldn't be missed.

Oh and I may have already mentioned, but Countess cracks me up.
