there's one that's sort of rockish-poppish called Hobbit. I never heard of it (and don't listen to it, either) until I was searching Napster for the Lord of the Rings albums.

Oh man, I have a LOT! I don't listen to the garbage on the radio, so I have to seek out good music. Here are many of the bands that I can't discuss with people because they never know who the hell they are:

Dream Theater, Symphony X, Armored Saint, HammerFall, Dragonforce, Iced Earth, Pain of Salvation, Savatage, Saint Vitus, Stratovarius, The Tragically Hip, Down, Elf, Diamond Head

Agreed! You took several that I was going to mention. I would add Yes, simply because, though they were pretty big once, it seems to be only the older generation that remembers them much now... :(
Opeth as well, and Blind Guardian.

I've heard this song once or twice and finally found out the author. I think my alter-ego wrote the lyrics:

FlagPole Sitta - Harvy Danger

I had visions, I was in them,
I was looking into the mirror
To see a little bit clearer
The rottenness and evil in me

Fingertips have memories,
Mine can't forget the curves of your body
And when I feel a bit naughty
I run it up the flagpole and see who salutes
(But no one ever does)

I'm not sick, but I'm not well
and I'm so hot 'cause I'm in hell

Been around the world and found
That only stupid people are breeding
The cretins cloning and feeding
And I don't even own a TV

Put me in the hospital for nerves
And then they had to commit me
You told them all I was crazy
They cut off my legs now I'm an amputee, GD you

I'm not sick, but I'm not well
And I'm so hot cause I'm in hell
I'm not sick, but I'm not well
And it's a sin, to live so well

I wanna publish 'zines
And rage against machines
I wanna pierce my tongue
It doesn't hurt, it feels fine
The trivial sublime
I'd like to turn off time
And kill my mind
You kill my mind
Mind...

Paranoia, paranoia
Everybody's comin' to get me
Just say you never met me
I'm runnin' underground with the moles
Diggin' holes
Hear the voices in my head
I swear to God it sounds like they're snoring
But if you're bored then you're boring
The agony and the irony, they're killing me, whoa!

I'm not sick, but I'm not well
And I'm so hot cause I'm in hell
I'm not sick, but I'm not well
And it's a sin to live this well

I really like Take Me Out and Outsiders by Franz Ferdinand.

I'd like to add The Dreseden Dolls to the list.

Yes, they do have. Yesterday the newspaper said that the new vocalist's identity will soon be published in internet :)

www.nightwish.com says:

"Nightwish reveals the cover artwork for their new single "Eva", to be released in all major music download stores on May 30th. This will be the first chance to hear the band's new singer, who will be introduced to the public on the same day on this website. As previously reported, this single will only be available on the internet and all profit will go to charity."

It's a little dissapointing, ut I'm open to a new vocalist, but Tarja really was quite awesome.

You can hear her voice, if you listen a sample of the new "Eva"-single :) I think it sounds good.

Nightwish has been very secrective with their new vocalist, because the media will be attacking her as soon as they'll find out who she is. They wanted to take some time to practise their new music with their new band member before introducing her to the public.

So, are you trying to say you like them, Jon? LMAO. If they come that highly recommmended, I'll def have to check out the rest of the album.

To those Kaiser Chief/Franz F lovers, you should check out The Hives and The Vines. They're murderous on the dance floor. (Specifically, listen to Hate to Say I Told You so (Hives) Outtathaway! (Vines)

Black Light Burns is a new band I really like; they're single "Lie" is kick-butt. Also enjoy Seether.

Right now I'm listening to Deep Dark Tribal House. Along those lines, I like Danny Tenaglia, Victor Calderone, Robbie Rivera, DJ Sasha.

Someone mentioned Razrolight. I saw them on a campus tour with Muse and they were the most classic brit band to see live. One of the security guards was mocking them at one point and the singer stopped the song and got the guy thrown out. He was this little dude, swearing and threatening this massive security guy. They eventually threw the guard out and replaced him.

Could have been staged, who knows. Damn entertaining.

If you want something on the mellow yet... well good, chech out Jack Lukeman (Jack L to those of us in Ireland!) I know i mentioned him before but he is really good. He Did an Album called Chez Brel Which was a tribute album to Brel and included the Song Amsterdam. He also has great stagemanship. He aint much to look at but once he opens his mouth and starts singing... well he's got your soul! (explains why he looks like the devil!:p )

i think it was just a phase i went through. i remember seeing the MTV video where the nerdy singer is jumping all over belting out those crazy lyrics, and i said to myself: "now that's the coolest nerdy singer around!"

how can you not love the insanity of these lyrics:

I forgot another:

Marcy Playground
I think they had one main hit, but they were not really too popular or common where I am, I liked the pigeon farm song. :)

I should also mention Lure, they were a haevy metal / death metal band, they actually had three albums. Not bad, they are a bit of a cross between metalica and rob zombie

I'm glad someone has been following the Nightwish situation. I've been quite curious. Strange that they already have tour dates when their new singer has hardly been heard...

I meant also to mention Jordan Rudess. He's an incredible keyboardist (but then, he plays in Dream Theater, so how could he not, right?). He has a pretty neat album called "Feeding the Wheel" (though I can't make heads or tails of the conceptual stuff; but who cares), and another one coming out soon that will include some covers by bands like Yes and Electric Light Orchestra (another great band!).

Within Temptation

Within Temptation is great, too. The moment I heard "Stand My Ground" on the radio for the first time I decided that I'll like the band :D

Nightwish will introduce their new vocalist today in 1½ hours! It happens earlier than they planned. For some reason this inormation is not on the English website, only on the Finnish one.

"Iso-Britanniassa tapahtuneen nettivuodon takia joudumme aikaistamaan nettisinkun myynnin aloittamista ja itse laulajan julkistamista.

Nightwishin uuden laulajan henkilöllisyydestä tiedotetaan torstaina 24.5. klo 17.00. Tällöin tieto tulee ensimmäiseksi Nightwishin omille kotisivuille www.nightwish.com minkä jälkeen asiasta lähtee Spinefarmin kautta tiedote medialle."

Yeah, I like Yes and Blind Guardian too. I'm not big on Opeth simply because I DESPISE growling vocals. Musically and lyrcially, they are fantastic, but growling vocals immediatlely ruin any band for me.

hear this song. it was performed by a band called Hale whose lead vocalist is this high-strung dreamer guy named Champ. the title is Elegy, and yes, it's an Elegy. here it is:

Such a pretty sight
What a glorious day
I think I’m alright
Just don’t come here today

Ahh…
Ahh…

I’m taking all what’s mine
There just no time to waste
I know I’m doing fine
I’m letting go of hate

Ahh…
Ahh…

I’m alright, I’m alright
I’m alright
You killed, you killed yourself
Yourself
It’s not my fault, it’s not my fault

You gave up on me
Like you gave up your life
Now I’m finally free
You won’t be my wife

Ahh…
Ahh…
