:) Night, I just loved your great interview...wow so many things we found out about our smilie "Nightshade".....terrific and so witty! I laughed too at the bandage remark. Yes, I agree - nice idea for a thread - funny things kids say. Amazing all the places you have traveled. I am jealous.
How fortune you have been to so many countries and at such a young age.
I love librarians - they are so so nice and so are the aids. Glad to hear you work in a library - one of my favorite places on earth!
I, too, like Elton John and John Denver. I saw the later live when he was not well known. May his music live on - great lyrics. The other artists (most of them anyway) you mentioned I grew up with...they are from my generation. :D How funny, so many young people now appreciate the Eagles, and other 70's groups and singers from my era!

Thanks for such an entertaining and enlightening interview. I smile a lot like you....totally believe in a good heathy smile to brighten the day for everyone ;) winks are nice, too!
Nightshade - love that name and Leila is beautiful...Yes, like the Clapton song.

Well I'm not even sure what a librarian does, besides the obvious stuff.

They sure do a lot of interesting stuff.

When I first came to know that Night wants to be a liberarain, I always imagined her as the female lead in the movie 'The Mummy.' She knows everything about Humanaptra, this hidden city in Egypt, and she goes to find this city, and does a lot of adventurous things.....:D She wants to find this book about the dead, and she is so proud of being a librarian...:D

It does seem an interesting career to pursue...:D

Dont you remember the dialogue "I am a librarian"? It was so nicely said, and you must have seen what her knowledge about ancient Egypt led her to??

Whatever happens, dont worry, we'll make a Mummy of yours ;)

It is becoming a chat thread, I suppose. And before any member of the interviewing team says something, I must ask has the next interviewee been decided?? :)

Madhuri

After all, what isn't there to like about turnips?

 is there? :D

People are obsessed about different things....but..turnips (imagine a lot of emphasis on this word)...I have seen no use of turnip except as a salad :p

*after this expression of my innermost thoughts about turnips in the most outrageous manner, I can see Aimus coming to eat me instead of some cookies* :p

Shows that it must be quite a disputable topic :D.

ennison
01-30-2007, 05:43 PM
Although I know of no specific literature of the humble turnip I would say that it has a long tradition of being eaten with haggis on Burns' Night so it does have a tenuous connection outside of recipe books. That reminds me I have to go out and shoot a couple of haggi this weekend!

Madhuri
01-31-2007, 04:23 AM
Be careful! The last time I saw a picture of haggi, it looked like a grenade to me...:p :p

I wonder what is it filled with -- not 'humble' turnip :goof:

Why is it cooked inside the animal's stomach? (that is what I read about how its cooked) Does it add a special flavour to it?

:D

Note: Hey, I dont hate turnips, I am just teasing Aimus for his fondness for turnips. And, that he is good enough not to mind it.

At last the AimusSage (http://www.online-literature.com/forums/member.php?u=4887) interview

1. First off hello and how are you?
Howdy and good morning! I am good enough to know that I feel good :)

Lit net questions
2. How did you choose your User name and what does it mean?
That’s a long story! But to summarize: I used to be a space duster, and then I became Aimus Sage. It is that simple. It’s actually short for His Royal Highness the Benevolent and Just King Aimus the first. Ruler of the Infinite Universe, Mars, and the nation of the Glorious Turnip But that was too long and so I settled on just Aimus Sage instead.

3. How did you join the litnet? And how long have you been a member?
Let’s see, I joined by registering, Don’t we all? I’ve been a member for about two years. Give or take a few months. I’m too lazy to look it up.

4. As one the members with the highest post counts how would you describe the lit net?
I would describe it as a place with lots of unique people. It is a place where books are read, where stories are told, where friendships are made, but above all else, it’s a place on the net where a spam monkey like me can get an over the top post count by playing too much word association.

5. What would you say is the best and worst aspects of the lit net?
The best aspect are the people, I know it’s a cliché but it would get boring really fast if I was the only one around, although if that were the case, I would run around naked :p

6. Do you plan to change your avatar?
Never… well, unless… no, never mind, I’m never changing it.

7. . If you could do anything with the forum what would it be?
I would make it compulsory for all to dedicate one post each day to turnips everywhere.

8. What does a goblin have to do with pie?
Have you ever seen A goblin eating a pie? It’s not a pretty sight.

9. How alike is your RL personality to your lit net one?
What is a RL personality? If you are referring to what I’m like when I’m not being me, it’s pretty much similar with a few distinct differences.

Personal RL Questions

10. What is your date of birth?
The day I was born, I would recon, a long time ago, in a galaxy not so far away, I was born in the year of the boar, if that doesn’t answer the question, it’s November 17th.

11. How would you describe yourself?
By using words and language. I guess I would describe myself as a shy hobbit that loves turnips in a way that’s entirely healthy.

12. . What do you do in real life? Student, work?
Yes, I do both. I’m a student by day and a student by night, but sometimes I do a little work to cover expenses.

13. Could you tell us a little more about what you do?
Of course I can do that. Lets see, I study International Business and Management, which basically means I spend all my time listening to smart people with smart comments on the economics, marketing, logistics, financial aspects of doing business in an international environment, it is pretty straightforward really.

14. Would you to tell us a bit about your various hobbies?
Sure, I play Football, not that I’m that good, but I like it. I also like to build wooden ship models, although I’m slacking a bit. Reading is obviously something I like to do. Computer games, and, very recently, learning to play the guitar, so far I’ve only managed to get some sort of sound out of the instrument. :D

15. . Other than football do you like and play any sports?
I like many sports, Tennis, Rugby, Golf, Field Hockey, Ice Hockey; Cycling. I watch all those sports on TV, also athletics. I don’t play other sports beside football, unless you count running as a sport. I should actually go to a gym someday, but it’s something I keep pushing forward. Also, in the summer, I cycle a lot.

16. Since you usually like to drive fast, have you ever had an accident yet ? (suggested by Cookie)
No, never ever, and I like to drive fast, but that doesn’t mean excessive speeds. I’m really a responsible driver, I just really hate people that drive below the speed limit, if the limit is 80 KM/h then drive 80 KM/H! Today I had another weirdo like that, on the motorway. It’s a 120-km/h road, why try to overtake a car that drives 100 with 110???? ARRRRGGHHH so annoying… Not that I get angry or anything, I’ve never experienced road rage myself. Just like to complain about the slow movers.

17. Do you like to travel?
Yes.
18. Where have you been and where would you like to go?
I’ve been to France, USA, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, UK and recently, The Dominican Republic, I would like to go the all the other places in the world I’ve yet to visit, like Australia, China, India, Russia, Canada, Spain, Ireland etc, etc, etc.
19. If you could be anywhere at this moment where would you be?
Oh, anyplace is fine if I’m close to the people I like. Ok, so maybe not any place, but I’m not that picky. Just a nice place, nothing too dirty or having bad weather or anything.

20. What about your own country? What do you like about where you live?
It’s actually a very well managed country, up to a point. Things work the way they are supposed to work. Good infrastructure. Proper bicycle lanes. The summers tend to be nice, I also enjoy the people, in a way, but I also dislike them, in a way, but that’s okay. I like them just the same.

21. What is your favourite season?
Summer, no wait, autumn, nono, it’s winter, or maybe spring. Ok, it’s probably summer but I do know why. That is, I know why, but I’m not telling.

22. Do you have a personal hero, or someone you look up to?
No I don’t, unless I can nominate myself, but that’s just silly.

23. For all the singles of the Lit-net, marital status?
Not married, I might even be single, but I’m not quite sure myself ;)

24. What is your most prized possession, and what is its significance?(suggested by zanna)
Good question, which means I don’t really know, but I think it might just be the first ship model I build, it’s a horrible thing really, and technically it isn’t even mine anymore, but it’s just something I’m proud of, because it was so difficult to build but I stuck to it, and finished it.

It’s either that, or my unique Iron Maiden memorabilia.

Nightshade
03-19-2007, 01:34 PM
Turnips, Mars and Iron Maiden
That’s quite correct. Not necessary in that order though. Was that a question?

25. When did your love-affair with turnips start? Did you inherit it from you parents?( suggested by toni)
Don’t tell my parents about the turnips!

26. How often do you eat turnips?
As often as is humanly impossible.

27. Why Mars especially? And how long have you been an admirer of the planet?
I have this gravitational pull toward Mars, I always end up on mars no matter what I do, no matter what test I take. It’s quite funny, and I like it that way. It has to do with the Martians. You see, when they found me in a test tube, they did something to my brain that makes me gravitate toward Mars. I don’t mind though, it’s a great place.

28. If you were to be someone other than King of the nation of Glorious Turnips, who would that be?
I’m not sure I get the question? Do you mean that if I wasn’t king, who else would be the king? It would be like the stewards of gondor. No king until I or one of my progeny returned to reclaim the throne.

If you mean what I would be if I wasn’t king of the nation of the Glorious Turnip, I would simply not exist.

29. Why Martian Knives inc?
I’m a major shareholder. Free publicity :D

30. How do you like to eat turnips?
With my mouth.

31. Any good turnip recipes you could suggest?
They’re all royal secrets. :p

32. What is your Favourite Iron Madien song?
I'm going with Hallowed Be Thy Name, but it's not set in stone or anything.

Favourites

33. Who is your favourite author?
I like Isaac Asimov a lot

34. what is your favourite book?
I like the Foundation Trilogy a lot.

35. What books are you really glad you read? And what do you think you want to get round to reading?
Uhm…. I’m really glad I read the Foundation trilogy. I want to get around to reading more from Nietzsche, also Machiavelli. Those are currently on my top reading list.

36. What kind of music do you enjoy?
Let’s see, I like Rock, Hard Rock, Metal, Classical music, Alternative music, also some of the typical 80s music. I have a very eclectic taste in music.

37. Which are your favourite bands/singers/composers/etc.?
IRON MAIDEN!!! IRON MAIDEN!!! IRON MAIDEN!!! That’s number one, but also PINK FLOYD, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Queen, U2, Golden Earring, Dire Straits and many, many more.

38. Your favourite game in the Games sub-forum?
Shrubbery.

39. Amazons or Dastardly Stans?
Dastardly Stans, for obvious reasons.

40. Any other favourites we should know about?
Yes.

And of course the most important question of them all

41. What is your favourite smilie?
Yes, Turnips, not smilies, they are not part of the most important question of them all, you little sneaky interviewer! GRRRR. :D

Having said that, I’m particularly fond of the :D smilie. Or the :flare: one.

Thanks for the interview
Glad to have been of assistance.

  Oh Aimus you had me laughing. Very good. A business major, I wouldn't have guessed. And where in the USA have you been
New York! Only once though, and only for about week. Far too short :) I have every intention of going back there, and also see more of the USA.

Sub: Say, IRON MAIDEN is well above the other bans for me in terms of favouriteness.! :D I noticed I forgot to mention Radiohead, it's one of the other bands I like. However I forgot a great many things, but that's my state of mind at the moment, or more precisely, these past few months. Forgetfull.

3. How did you join the litnet? And how long have you been a member?
Let’s see, I joined by registering, Don’t we all? I’ve been a member for about two years. Give or take a few months. I’m too lazy to look it up.

9. How alike is your RL personality to your lit net one?
What is a RL personality? If you are referring to what I’m like when I’m not being me, it’s pretty much similar with a few distinct differences.

11. How would you describe yourself?
By using words and language. I guess I would describe myself as a shy hobbit that loves turnips in a way that’s entirely healthy.

heehee, Aimus you're so funny :)

33. Who is your favourite author?
I like Isaac Asimov a lot

34. what is your favourite book?
I like the Foundation Trilogy a lot.
:D a fellow Asimov fan :)

Nightshade
03-21-2007, 05:08 AM
Turnips, Mars and Iron Maiden
That’s quite correct. Not necessary in that order though. Was that a question?

NO it was a title for the next section.

I'm glad you noticed! Thats bloody cheating.....:-)

if I was the only one around, although if that were the case, I would run around naked :p

Let us thank god for small mercies!

6. Do you plan to change your avatar?
Never… well, unless… no, never mind, I’m never changing it.

Oh come on, tell us!

8. What does a goblin have to do with pie?
Have you ever seen A goblin eating a pie? It’s not a pretty sight.

Pray tell us, where have you seen this?!

9. How alike is your RL personality to your lit net one?
What is a RL personality? If you are referring to what I’m like when I’m not being me, it’s pretty much similar with a few distinct differences.

One distinct difference being you run around naked in RL. I knew I had seen that behind somewhere!

13. Could you tell us a little more about what you do?
Of course I can do that. Lets see, I study International Business and Management, which basically means I spend all my time listening to smart people with smart comments on the economics, marketing, logistics, financial aspects of doing business in an international environment, it is pretty straightforward really.

How boring! Lol. Wait...you listen to smart people all day? And still...you haven't improved or learnt from them? COme on A-mess! Buckle up.

learning to play the guitar, so far I’ve only managed to get some sort of sound out of the instrument. :D

Try actually 'playing' by stroking the strings rather than banging it hard on the floor.

I’ve never experienced road rage myself. Just like to complain about the slow movers.

Exactly what I feel with you when your slow mentally. See, now you can relate!

Dude, make your mind up! Lol. :-)

21. What is your favourite season?
Summer, no wait, autumn, nono, it’s winter, or maybe spring. Ok, it’s probably summer but I do know why. That is, I know why, but I’m not telling.

I rest my case about the making mind up bit!

22. Do you have a personal hero, or someone you look up to?
No I don’t, unless I can nominate myself, but that’s just silly.

You could have nominated me. *sulks* :bawling:

23. For all the singles of the Lit-net, marital status?
Not married, I might even be single, but I’m not quite sure myself ;)

I guess its hard to decide when your in love with yourself. Lol. Only pulling your leg. Gosh, Im such a small cute girl. I dont know where I get this meaness and acidness from!

I am grateful you didn't say a body part. :lol

optimisticnad
03-21-2007, 03:48 PM
25. When did your love-affair with turnips start? Did you inherit it from you parents?( suggested by toni)
Don’t tell my parents about the turnips!

26. How often do you eat turnips?
As often as is humanly impossible.

Lets get all Freudian here and interpret turnips as masturbation. And suddenly the above two answers make sense and take on a different meaning.

28. If you were to be someone other than King of the nation of Glorious Turnips, who would that be?
I’m not sure I get the question? Do you mean that if I wasn’t king, who else would be the king? It would be like the stewards of gondor. No king until I or one of my progeny returned to reclaim the throne.

Your forgetting your neighbour! Im sure I can give you an 'heir'. (Do they have DNA testing on Mars? Im sure no one would know he isnt yours)

Sigh, I lost my respect for Aimus :( If that's the limit it doesn't mean that you have to be that fast. I am one of those slow movers, and for that reason I never go on highways, they scare the hell out of me. Actually it's one of the reasons why I drive as little as possible, and I'm glad I haven't had the necessity to do so in 6 months now. And I do know road rage :flare:

Hello good evening, and please welcome to the studio… KATHY! (http://www.online-literature.com/forums/member.php?u=14176) *insert applause tape*
How are you today?
Actually, today I am doing pretty well. The weather is finally warmer and I am full from lunch and in a good mood. Coffee was good...oh wait. You probably wanted me to just say I was fine and then move on... :p

General questions
Moving on to the first few questions

How did you decide on your username?
I think I might have mentioned this before but my given name is Kathleen. I typically go by Kathy (as well as Kath and Kat) and my middle name is Connell. SleepyWitch guessed that. F is for my surname. Pretty original, huh?

Why did you initially join the lit-net?
I had done a google search about some story and Lit Net was one of the links. I lurked around the forum for all of fifteen minutes before deciding I had to join. I am pretty new to this online community stuff, I only belong to Lit net and a few other sites.

What would you say is the best aspect of the forum?
The people. Sure, I suppose that is the expected answer, but it really is true. I know this might come as a surpise, but I am really reclusive and not very sociable in "real life". It has meant a lot to me to come out of my shell and interact with people. It helps that we have books in common, but the connection isn't just about books.

Niamh is eager to find out what the most stupid question someone has ever asked you is.
Honey, that would take me too long to answer. There have been a lot of stupid questions! *lol* I guess one of my personal idiotic favs was when someone approached me and asked what size my bra was.

Another send in question, this one by Kathy, who I must say, looks remarkably similar to our interviewee, is there any relation?
I don't know her, I don't know WHAT you mean. *wink*

Anyway, on to her question, she asks: “Defensive much? Why do you take some comments so personally?”
Of all the nerve! Well, in all honesty, I don't always know. Sometimes I think I over react to something but then other people think otherwise. Sometimes I look at a comment and think it is about me and get upset. Does it mean I think too much of myself, or too little? Probably both, and I developed an over protective attitude in childhood and sometimes it carries over to my life now. Ok, I think we are getting into too much psychoanalysis and folks will start to get antsy....

Personal Questions
This is where people get to ask you all the details of your life.

What is your date of birth?
July 26. That is only three months from now, plenty of time for you guys to get shopping done.

How would you describe yourself, your personality?
A mess of contradictions. I can be outgoing and shy, fun and then depressed. I worry too much, I tend to be a little lazy.

What do you do in RL? Student, work?
Normally I am in school. I am an older student who returned to get my degree. I have a dual major in psychology and sociology, but I used to be an English major. I hope to get a master's degree in social work, but right now am concentrating on getting my bachelor's degree. I also do volunteer work for the Massachusetts Department of Social Services and my local rape crisis center. Sadly for me, my health has deteriorated to the point where I am unable to partake in those activities. I hope to get back to them soon.

Could you tell us a little more about what you do?
Well, for school I do...school stuff. Study, write papers, do projects. For volunteer work I am a volunteer case reviewer with the Mass DSS. When a child is taken into foster care, the state must conduct a review of the case every six months. There are certain tasks assigned for the different parties involved, depending on their case and the review makes sure tasks are completed and information is kept up to date. The rape crisis center provides support groups and peer counseling for individuals who have experienced sexual abuse and assault, either as children or adults. Most of the clients are women, but there are also men who seek counseling. It is sad that such a need exists, in a perfect world we would never have to worry about people being hurt.

How did you become such a computer/software expert? How come? Been dating a lot of IT geeks? /b]
I'm really not. There is a lot of stuff I don't know, and what I do know comes from reading or being taught. Dating IT geeks? Why, do you want to set me up on a date? :p

When you come across movies with computer-generated action, do you sit and analyze how it was done? Does it inspire you?
To a degree. I will usually point out to the person who is watching the movie with me "Hey did you see that?! That monster was a cgi, didja see?!" This is usually met with an annoyed glance and an admonishment to hush. I think creating those images and the animation involved is a fascinating field, but one I don't have any plans (currently) to enter.

Do you come across literature that has computer issues as part of its theme? And do you like that in your literature?
Some of the stuff I read does have computers in it, but a lot doesn't. I think it depends on if it adds to the story, then I like it. I tend to favor older mysteries such as those by Agatha Christie, Rex Stout and Dorothy Sayers. I imagine Nero Wolfe would say "pfui" if he was ever asked to use a computer. ;)

How have you collected such a vast knowledge of just about everything?
Oh, my! I don't think I know all that much. I am lucky to have a decent memory, and I have read a lot from different sources. I retain some information really well, but other things seem to go in one ear and out the other.

As a member of the official turnipers club, how has the turnip changed your life?
The turnip has brought a sense of joy and wonderment to my life. And no, folks, Aimus did NOT pay me to say that....

Now that we are on the topic of turnips, what kind of recipes do you have?
Lots, but I fear there will be a revolt of some kind if I give them all here.

What about sports, do you like any and do you play sports yourself, or just watch?
Well, no offense to sports fans, but I hate watching sports, especially on TV. I will watch the Superbowl if the New England Patriots are playing, and I did watch part of the World Series when the Red Sox were playing but otherwise...meh. My best friend's daughter has started playing soccer (or "real" football for non US people) so I would go see her play. For myself, I love to swim and I used to walk quite a bit with my dog. I prefer walking in the woods, where it is quiet and I can enjoy the scenery.

Do you like to travel?
Yes, but I have become a total homebody.

Which countries have you visited? And which ones would you really like to visit someday?
I have been to Ireland, Canada and England. I would love to visit Portugal someday; my maternal grandfather emigrated from there as a young boy. I think India would be a fascinating place to visit, plus I can then get a ride on Maddie's new scooter.

Could you tell us something about the countries you have visited? Like the culture, environment, etc.
My visits to Ireland were family related, weddings and stuff like that. I loved it there, the countryside is just beautiful, almost everybody was very friendly and so much history. I didn't see nearly enough, and the same with England. I was only in London very briefly before taking a shuttle to Ireland. I would love to see the art museums, and just sightsee. Canada was very beautiful. My trip included areas of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. I remember this one beach where the water was like crystal glass, and freezing even though it was summer. That was a long time ago, though.

What about your own country? What do you like about where you live? Many have read your blog entry ( http://www.online-literature.com/forums/blogs/viewblog.php?entry=658&userid=14176) on the US, but tell us a bit more.

Heh, well. The US is such a huge country, it would be hard for me to speak for everybody. My home state of Massachusetts has a few myths about it. People tend to think Mass. people are raving liberals or blue blooded conservative types. Or that we burn so called witches at the stake. (somebody asked me about that, I should have put that down as an all time stupid question. Of course I am referring to the Salem witch trials, that took place over 300 years ago.

For what I like about my country...hmm. There is a lot of variety here. People have settled here from all over the world, and I like the diversity. There really is no one defined "American" type, not to me anyway. I think there are many natural wonders here; I would love to see the Grand Canyon and parts of the southwest. I have travelled as far south as Virginia and as far north as Maine and Vermont.

Do you have a personal hero, or someone you look up to?
I admire the work Angela Shelton has done. She made a film called "Searching for Angela Shelton". She had set out to interview women who shared the name and found that 70% had experienced rape, childhood sexual abuse and/or domestic abuse.

Now, for all the singles of the Lit-net, marital status? ;)
I am divorced, and am currently in a relationship.

Will we ever see a picture of you? (Other than your eyes!
Um...maybe. Would you like a picture of my right big toe? ;). I will probably post one of my actual face, at some point.

Okay, so we’ve pretty much dissected you by now, but Nightshade is eager for more, and would like you to describe yourself in 50 words.
Curse you, NIght! (lol) Well, I will put down words or phrases that describe me, but make no promises to them being in any sort of coherent order.
Eager to please, caring, insecure, needy, crabby, silly, dorky, prone to emotional outbursts, gloomy, compassionate, chocolate lover, caffeine fiend. Er,that isn't fifty, but oh well. :D

[b]Favourites and other questions
Yes, the favourites, an essential part of any interview!

Onward to the obvious question, the first favourite to be asked: Who is your favourite author?
I don't have a favorite. I like so many. I really like Arthur Conan Doyle, Patricia Cornwell, Agatha Christie, Alice Hoffman, Tami Hoag, Rex Stout, Dorothy Sayers, Janet Evanovich and Sue Grafton. I have enjoyed Jane Austen and the Brontes ( I like Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights, as well as Emma. I know they aren't the most popular choices, but nyah.) I still have some favorites from childhood such as Laura Ingalls Wilder, Carolyn Keene and Janet Lambert.

And your favourite book/novel?
Waaay too many. I like so many different ones, it is impossible to choose a favorite.

What kind of music do you enjoy?
Lots of different kinds. I like stuff from The Sex Pistols to Elton John. I also love big band (Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman) and traditional Celtic music.

Which are your favourite bands/singers/composers/etc.?
I like Joydrop, Sarah Maclachlan, Greenday, Elton John, plus some stuff in between. Counting Crows, Pearl Jam, Diana Ross and the Supremes. I guess my tastes are all over the place.

Tell us something about your favourite movie.
It is really hard to choose a favorite. I like classic movies a lot. One of my favs is "All about Eve" which starred Bette Davis. She plays Margo Channing, a stage actress who develops problems with a younger, scheming rival. I think that era was so glamourous, and Bette didn't take crap from anybody. (at least in that movie, in the movie "Now, Voyager" she played a bit of a mouse) I also loved "Spellbound" and "To kill a Mockingbird" with the fabulous Gregory Peck.

Can you tell us a little about your favourite computer games?
I love playing Scrabble on the computer, and also this other word game called "Bookworm". I like to play this game called "Chessmaster" occasionaly, even though I am not very good at chess. In the last couple of years I have started playing some rpg computer games. I like games that can be modded (modified), because it is fun to learn how to add your own personal content into a game. I have been writing simple code, and making templates for an older action rpg called Dungeon Siege. I have been using scans of fabric to create my own custom armor, plus experimenting with templates for weapons and spells. Sort of dorky, but it is fun and my boyfriend thinks I should go into making computer games as a line of work.

Your favourite game in the Games sub-forum?
Insult Pam. :D

Favourite Food?
Broccoli and of course, chocolate.

How does it feel to be the wench amongst Stan’s dastardlies?
Pretty darn special. I miss our ship, I think the Amazons kidnapped Cap'n Stan and are hiding him someplace.

If you could have any other position aboard the Dastardly, what would it be?
Captain, of course. I'm large and in charge. Well, what else did you expect me to do, swab the deck? :p

Why a pink bathrobe?
Why not? Seriously, a cozy bathrobe is a necessity most of the year, and pink is just a pretty color.

Do you like Clam Chowdah? I have no idea what it is, but apparently Robinhood3000 does, and is eager to hear the answer
No. I know, I shall have to move to another state. Massachusetts is somewhat known for it's clam chowder (sorry, chowdah) as well as Boston baked beans. I don't like either one, but corn chowder is pretty tasty.

Online quizzes… why?
They are fun!!!!

Any other favourites we should know about?
You, Aimus, are my favorite turniper. My favorite mascara shade is dark brown, and my favorite time of year is autumn.

The Almost most important question of them all
What is your favourite Smilie? (Night likes to content that this is actually the most important question of them all)
I like the little wavey one the best. So cute and friendly.

And now, the most important question of them all
How do you like your turnips?
Is there any wrong way to enjoy turnips? I like them best mashed with tons of butter and pepper on top.

I'd like to thank Kathy, for this wonderful interview, and also all the people who sent in questions, thank you!

Kathy :D Thanks for saying I'm your favourite turniper! :) I'm a little dissapointed in your favourite food though, I mean, Broccoli?? :p

Anyway! you were a fantastic interviewee!

If anyone is interested in rereading old interviews, go to the first post (http://www.online-literature.com/forums/showpost.php?p=228509&postcount=1) of this thread, and look near the bottom to see links to each interview.

Thanks kathy, AimusSage and the others included in this interview. I really enjoyed reading it.

You said it not me ;) :p

Not that it's bad to laugh, it's healthy. But it's also highly contagious. Once, on Mars there was a great outbreak of laughter, which caused many poor Martians to laugh themselves to death! It is widely accepted that hamsters were responsible. As everyone knows, hamsters are immune to laughter, but are able to instigate laughter by performing silly acrobatic acts.

That was a nice one. For the life of me I couldn't think of a question. Made it to Mass only once when I was hunting a fellow airman friend from Guam at Westover AFB (1973) which I believe is closed down now. Remember thinking it was pretty country.

Most of the military bases are closed down now, yes. I think the best time of year in Massachusetts is fall, it is very pretty here then. :)

How did you become such a computer/software expert? Been dating a lot of IT geeks?
I'm really not. There is a lot of stuff I don't know, and what I do know comes from reading or being taught. Dating IT geeks? Why, do you want to set me up on a date? :p
Well, that was my question, and as it happens I do have some flatmates to spare... :p ;)

I
think I might have mentioned this before but my given name is Kathleen. I typically go by Kathy (as well as Kath and Kat) and my middle name is Connell. SleepyWitch guessed that. F is for my surname. Pretty original, huh?

ingenious!

The people. Sure, I suppose that is the expected answer, but it really is true. I know this might come as a surpise, but I am really reclusive and not very sociable in "real life". It has meant a lot to me to come out of my shell and interact with people. It helps that we have books in common, but the connection isn't just about books.

Hang on, you were all sensitive and serious! :bawling: :bawling: Thats better. But your right kathy, it is the people and its not just books that we have in common. You only have to pop in celebrity crush forum to realise theres more than books!

Honey, that would take me too long to answer. There have been a lot of stupid questions! *lol* I guess one of my personal idiotic favs was when someone approached me and asked what size my bra was.

Drum roll....AND THE ANSWER? oh come on, whats a question without an answer. Hey maybe I'd create a new forum thread: 'guess not the number of smarties in the jar but the size of kathy's bra'. I think that sounds rather poetic.

Bette Davis is fantastic!!!!!!! I watched a documentary on her recently and 'All about Eve' was rather autobiographical in that her rival in that was in reality her rival too, a younger prettier etc. etc.

My fave too! But I think thats become rather obvious to everyone....

Interview nominations
It is possible to nominate yourself or anyone else for an interview; however, all interviews are on a voluntary basis and as such it depends on the willingness of the person you have nominated whether it will proceed. Please do not give more than one suggestion at a time. Only the first nomination per member will be considered, so choose carefully who you would like to see interviewed.
The final decision as to who will be interviewed is up to the Lit-Net Town crier board of interviewers.
The Nominations are to be done by PM, so as not to clog up the thread with suggestions and such. Please contact me or Aimus.

A lot of math. Three classes of calcuus, differential eqations, and advanced math (or something like that, I forget what it was called). And most of the science and engineering classes involve application of the math. But the funny thing is that as an engineer I hardly do anything mathematical. The math is all worked out; it's a matter of understanding the equations. I don't think I've done any calculus in my actual job. I started out liking math, but I absolutely hated it by the middle of college.

Perhaps you should have tried engineering. Did your parents make the decision for you? It wouldn't have hurt to give it a try. But that's the past now.

Well I still have a chance...I have one more year of Highschool...right now I'm just working out getting into the school of my dreams!! I'm already ahead of the average highschool student in math...not that I am good, but I doubled up courses in math my sophmore year so I could take Calculas my senior year. I'm just keeping my doors open. My parents would support me in anything I wanted to do...they just couldn't see me as an engineer...my dad wants me to be a journalist and my mom wants me to be a translator for the government or a doctor.

Oh you're in high school. I thought you were much older. You should do as your heart desires. Why can't they see you as an engineer? Do you enjoy the science classes? If so then you have it in you to be an engineer. But you just have to buckle down and learn the math. You don't have to like it, but to get through school you'll have to know it. But once out of school, you don't really use it that much in most engineering jobs. So if you can bear it while in school, you can have a good career that you'll enjoy after. I hope that helps.

Agree completely, and also it is my experience that you dont need to be great at drafting either - most engineers get us techs to do the drawings then just stamp it;) :p

Well, I've wanted to be three things my entire life: Mad Scientist, Artist, Writer.

I love science and math is enjoyable once I understand it. I think my parents are just worried that I won't enjoy it and then don't quit. See I'm not much of a quitter...I have a summer job that I hate, but won't quit because it is my responsibility, I doubled up math and was struggling the entire year...my counselor and parents wanted me to drop one and take it again next year...I stuck through them and ended up with an A in Geometry and I got cheated out of a B because of my teacher...grrr...I ended up with a 79, but I'm glad I got the experience. I am leaning towards journalism though...but I would still like to give it a try...just to keep everything open to me. Thanks for the advice guys!

You got the makings of a great engineer!!! Go for it. And when you graduate, send me a resume. I love people who don't quit and I would certainly consider hiring you. :) what you told me there makes you more valuable than a straight A student. :thumbs_up

I think I'll eventually forget and it'll be such a nice surprise when out of nowhere someone says, "You're going to get asked interview questions now." That will be a happy day...

That's what happened to me, I didn't even think I was on the list because I'm not around much and all the new people might have never seen me...

By the way...what happened to Nightyyyyyy!??? :(

Well, perhaps not in the newly-started threads. But the good thing is we have got threads of the yester-years also treasured on lit-net! :D

By the way...what happened to Nightyyyyyy!??? :([/QUOTE]

*wonders the same*

Perhaps it's because of what we internet-ters call 'real-life'. :) I am sorry, everyone especially Koa to put you on such a wait. I hope you wouldn't be throwing angry smilies at me if I ask you to wait for some more time. :p

Again, sorry for such a delay but I have already PM-ed Night. Hope it works!

Bummer that Night is gone! Hopefully she's ok . . . maybe just "stuck" in real life, lol. I, to join the rest of you, can't wait for the next interview to come out. (Well, I can, and I'll have to, it looks like, but I'm excited. :) This interview thread has been pretty cool.)

Hi everyone! Night seems to be busy with life (as we all are sometimes), perhaps on vacation as Virgil has said. But I am sorry to all those who had to wait, especially the member who was going to be interviewed! But I hope she would understand.

I also hope people would be interested in sending me questions for our quite active (yes, from about four years) member who has a great part in making forum what it is! Please, send your questions now to help us in revealing much more than we already know about our very own Koa! (http://www.online-literature.com/forums/member.php?u=925) :D

*edit to add*

Please send me your questions before twentieth of this month if you can manage it! We are already quite late!

Got Koa's answers just a few hours back. Would like to thank her for giving us a chance to get to know more about her by answering these questions and to all of you who like our interview series and comment on it. :) Thanks for your patience.

Introductory Questions

1. How are you today?
Fine, fine. It’s Sunday, being lazy...

2. What is your (user) name?
Koa (duh ;))

3. How did you decide your username?
I just needed a quick username to ask a quick question so used the name my schoolmates used to call me. I didn’t think I would stick to the forum, so it’s a bit weird now to be in a forum with a name that is so attached to my real life (and my brother goes under the same nickname too, because it comes from our surname so friends call us that...)

4. Why did you initially join the lit-net?
As I said, to ask a quick question... I had to read some Virginia Woolf for Uni and before buying it I was looking for it online and I was asking about the copyright, to know if it was possible to find it online at all.

5. As one of the oldest members here how do you think the forum has changed?
It has changed immensely. When I first joined the general chat section was rather...underdeveloped, not many discussions there around random things... of course because there were many less users. It was all much slower because it wasn’t this big. And it was all very serious. Then a certain user came and started to put in some fun and it all came more easy-going and basically turned into what it is now, even if still in a milder and smaller version.

6. Now tell us, what do you think are the good aspects of this forum?
It’s friendly, and interesting, and there are people from all over the world, although this applies to many forums I think, but it’s a great thing of the forum world in general. I’m not around that often anymore and to be really honest sometimes I don’t really feel “into” it anymore, too many people and too many new faces... I’m not saying it’s wrong, it’s just that not being there often I lost a lot of the attachment I had.

7. And what do you like the best about lit-net?
Isn’t that the same question as before? ;) Or this applies to the whole site? Well I think it’s great to have such a database of literature and as far as I remember it’s very easy to browse and comfortable. A very good job and an impressive amount of work, I guess.

8. The thing in this forum you would like to have improved?
Hm I’m not sure there’s anything to improve... I remember complaining about some restrictions such as smilies or characters in a post, but I think they have been changed then. There are things I don’t like but they are part of my opinion and personal taste so it wouldn’t make sense to express that, I can just ignore them. Oh there is one thing that sometimes gets a bit on my nerves and it’s been discussed before...too much friendliness :D Let’s be a bit more nasty, people! :D (I certainly do my best :D)

9. How do you feel about smilies?
The world wouldn’t be the same without them. Seriously, it’s great to be able to express something, like changing the tone of a sentence or conveying a facial expression... I do use smilies a lot, especially on MSN... it’s a bit embarrassing sometimes, you see I’m a forum user because of how many smilies I use there in comparison with people who are not internet addicted...

Personal Questions

10. What is your date of birth?
19th March 1982

11. How would you describe yourself, your personality?
Eeeeh! Thats is a tough one! I’ll try and make an effort... I think I’m quite intorverted and extroverted at the same time, like I like to stay on my own and I’m really wary of people at first, but when I get confident I can be quite extroverted. I talk a lot and I think I’m quite faithful to people I care about... Hm and I feel quite independent, well I fear others’ judgement but I just can’t live costantly in a group for long, as it’s typical in my country instead.

12. What do you do in RL? Student, work?
I have just finished to write my Master dissertation, so I’m no longer a student. It’s a horrible feeling, I don’t want to grow up! I had a part-time job where I can stay until mid-October (well I’m on holiday for the next two weeks though!) so I’m looking for something to do after that. No, I don’t know what I want to do. For the moment, anything that allows me to survive here in the UK, hopefully something I can enjoy enough... then I’ll think about what I really want to aim at...

13. How about your ideal job? Is the present one your ideal one? (suggested by Scheherazade)
Oh lol I partly answered above. Well I felt that during my Master I was trying out the scholar’s life and I wasn’t too impressed... well it’s incredibly interesting and all and I’ve had moments of thinking of continuing my studies, but I know in reality I don’t want to, at least not know. The dissertation was way too hard and it stressed me more than it should have, I wouldn’t be able to live like that for years. Maybe later in my life, when my mind is a bit more stable. If that ever happens, which I doubt :D

14. Would you tell us something about your various hobbies too?
I feel like I don’t really have hobbies, boring as it is... I just spend my free time online, when I don’t go out with my friends... I haven’t been reading much lately, at least for fun, but I hope I’ll go back to that soon (it’s been only one week since I finished working hard so I’m resting my mind). I like to learn languages but I can’t do it by myself, I’m too lazy and easily distracted so I need at least a language partner if not a class. I enjoy writing letters, the old way with pen and paper but it happens rarely these days because of lack of time and I have only two penpals left who are also very busy with their lives so it slowed down. I don’t watch much TV (didn’t have a TV for the past here, now I moved into a place where there is one but that’s rarely something worth watching, I mostly use it as a background or for moments when I’m too tired to do anything, but then I get bored after a few minutes anyway.)
15. Do you like sports, if so do you play sports yourself?
I used to be into sports about 10 years ago, but then I lost interest. I used to follow football (soccer for you Americans), formula 1 and especially basketball. I used to play basketball and I really loved it but I wasn’t good at it at all. :D

16. What about music? Do you play any instruments?
I can’t play anything and music lessons at school were a real pain, I just don’t understand anything about music. I listen to it, but without any technical awareness...

17. Now we should better come towards your location. Where do you live and from where do you belong?
I’m currently living in the UK, in a big city whose name starts with M :D I absolutely love it. I don’t know where I belong, I thought I belonged here but as much as I love it, it is difficult sometimes because it’s so incredibly different from where I’m from. I’m probably one of those desperate travellers who like to change location every now and then. Citizen of the world lol, although that’s a bit of a lame definition in my opinion ;)
18. When are you going to go back to Italy and what will you be doing once you are back? (suggested by Sceheherazade)
I’m going back whenever I feel like it. Since I have no real direction, I prefer to do a random job here than there, as I feel more active when I’m not at home. I just get really passive there and everything feels more difficult. Maybe because I live with my parents there so I have less motivations to actually get active. I just find it easier to live my own way here.

19. Perhaps you mentioned somewhere that you didn't like a few things about Italy but has it started becoming a little more agreeable for you as you are starting to get older? (suggested by Virgil)
I don’t think it’s about getting older, I think it’s about being far from it ;) I needed England to start appreciating some things about Italy :D Still I’m not sure I’d be able to live there, at least not in my hometown, which feels too narrow-minded... I’d love to live in Milan at some point. Being here, for the first time in my life I felt a bit homesick at some point, probably because of the terrible weather we’ve had. I think the UK is, as I said, so different that it made me miss some things that were usual to me. But still I’m not sure I like the Italian mentality.

20. How about Italian literature? What do you think about it? (suggested by Virgil)
It used to be one of my favourite subjects at school, and I really appreciated a big part of it. I think it’s really rich and interesting. I don’t know much at all about contemporary literature though...and no I’m not into Dante, I’ve never heard of anyone liking it, for us it’s just something we have to go through for years and years at school. I admit it’s not uninteresting but it’s just too much :D

21. Which other countries have you visited?
I love travelling. I have spent quite a lot of time, as in months, in Ukraine and Hungary. Now let me think of places I’ve quickly visited and I’ll show off my list, in random order: Ireland (well I’ve just been to Dublin for 3 days a few weeks ago), Germany (one week or so in 2000), France (with school in 1998 and probably a couple other times with my family), Spain (Madrid last January), Austria (which I really don’t like, sorry), Finland (one week between 2005 and 2006), Estonia (well one day in Tallinn while I was in Finland and I just hopped there), Russia (how could I forget, one month in Moscow in 2005), hmmm Serbia Bosnia and Romania quickly while I was in Hungary as I lived close to the border to Serbia and Romania, but I spent just one day in Romania... 2 or 3 in Serbia and one in Bosnia. I feel I’m forgetting something. I’ve been to Prague in 2004 so Czech Republic should be on the list too. And I think that’s it. I’ve never been out of Europe and I’m not sure it will ever happen, I really dislike long flights so that puts me off unfortunately...

22. Which one did you like the best and why? (suggested by Scheherazade)
I have a special attachment to Hungary, but it must be influenced by the fact that I was on a student exchange so everything was easier from the point of view of socialising, and it also was the first time I lived abroad or lived out of my parents’ house for what matters (that’s normal for an Italian). So I just enjoyed it immensely. And the country is so interesting. I really love the whole of Eastern Europe, it has a certain feeling to it. I really loved to live in Kiev too, and Moscow was great to experience too.

23. Do you have a personal hero or someone you look up to?
Not really, or maybe I have in some moments but it changes all the time. Or I admire some things from some people.

Favourites

24. The favourite chamber in the forum?
Just general chat and chit-chat ;) It’s relaxing to talk of nothing :D

25. Favourite author and why?
Not sure I have one anymore. I had a big Dostoevsky phase some years ago but it’s been a while...

26. Favourite book and why? (suggested by Scheherazade)
Same as above... Maybe I could say Crime and Punishment because of how much it amazed me the first time I read it, but I know I desperately loved other books in my life. I only wish I could read like that again but I’m too distracted and scatterbrained these days

27. Favourite music band or singers?
My absolute favourites: Depeche Mode, the Cure, Joy Division, Placebo, The Smiths... things like that. I’m that kind of dark-ish 80s person I guess. Plus some Italian bands and singers you’d never heard about and some obscure (well really popular there, but not outside of the country I fear) Hungarian band and singer. Some Russian stuff too.

28. Favourite movie and why? (suggested by Sceheherazade)
I used to answer to this by saying that I don’t like movies. Then I realised I just was bored with the usual American movies, since I got the opportunity to see many films from many countries at the library where I was working, and they were just so interesting. Still I don’t have an absolute favourite, there are just films I liked a lot.

29. Your favourite game in the Games sub-forum?
Haven’t been in there in years

30. And and and your favourite smilie?
There are many valuable ones, but: :D is just special!
And now, the most important question of them all

Now The Most Important Question of All

31. How do you like your turnips?

I like them to sit on their shelf at the supermarket and not move from there :D

Thanks for the sweet interview, Koa! :)
