An interview with Mona:
1. How did you come about this site and what makes you keep coming back?
I was searching for something about Wuthering Heights on Google, and stumbled on this site. I decided to join because I wanted a place to discuss books other than Harry Potter
2. Are you happy with the way things are here?
Yes, this forum is very well moderated and full of really clever people.
3. Have you visited other countries than your own and what did you like about it or not like? If you could live somewhere different from where you live now, where would it be and why?
I've visited the US two times. It was fun. As for where I'd like to live, in a total escapist fantasy sense, somewhere in the English countryside in a place like Blandings Castle with beautiful gardens, extensive grounds and a lake!
4. Do you have any pets?
No
5. What makes you happy?
Er...When good things happen? Actually I’m quite happy most of the time.
6. What is mankind's biggest achievement, and its greatest downfall?
The discovery of vaccination or something, or maybe the invention of the wheel if we want to go back that far. (I’m not good at answering this type of question). For downfall, how about mankind’s inability to learn from history?
7. If you had a long day of hard work ahead of you what music would you be playing on your mp3, while working?
I don’t usually play music while working, but if I do it will probably be Mozart or Beethoven or Bach.
8. If you could take one book, music album and one video with you to a desert island, what would they be?
The Bible would be a good choice, I think. Movie- Pulp Fiction or The Piano or Four Weddings and a funeral.
9. Do you feel comfortable in your walk with God?
No, not exactly comfortable, no.
10. Which actor should play you in a movie based on your life?
Someone like Angelina Jolie or Salma Hayek, with lots of personality and good looks, would be great!
11.Given the option, what animal would you choose to be?
A bird of some sort, so I could spread my wings and fly.
12. What were your favorite things to do the past? What about now?
I used to like designing dresses, but I don’t do that anymore. I still like to draw, though.
13. What activities make you lose track of time?
Reading, watching movies, reading posts on this forum or the HP forum I belong to.
14. What makes you feel great about yourself?
When I’ve completed some difficult or irksome job that I’ve set myself. When i've produced a good drawing and things like that, when people compliment me...
15. Who inspires you most? (Anyone you know or not. Family, friends, authors, artists, leaders, etc.) Which qualities inspire you, in each person?
I admire confident, courageous people.
16. What are you naturally good at? (Skills, abilities, gifts etc.)
I’m quite good at reading (I do believe that’s a skill that not everyone has), drawing and painting, cooking
17. What do people typically ask you for help in?
I’m supposed to be good at at English, so I’m the person to ask when people have doubts about grammer or vocabulary.
18. If you had to teach something, what would you teach?I’d like to teach English.
19. What would you regret not fully doing, being or having in your life?
I’d like to have been a teacher or at least taken up some job. I also regret our decision not to have more kids after our son was born.
20. What song is in your head at the moment?A song from a tamil movie.
21. The last book you bought/borrowed from the library?The last book I bought was The Tales of Beedle the Bard by JK Rowling. I borrowed Pickwick Papers from the library almost a month back and still haven’t finished.
22. Which book are you reading at the moment?The Pickwick Papers and The Brontes: Their Lives, Friendships and Correspondence
23. The last book you finished reading?Nicholas Nickleby.
24. Favorite food?/ Comfort food?At the moment, chapathis and chicken curry. Comfort food- bread and butter.
25. What time of day do you most often find yourself on the LitNet?In the morning, while eating my breakfast and drinking coffee.
26. What are you wearing at the moment?A Kaftan. That’s what I always wear around the house.
27. Favorite poem?Too many. I'll have to think about it.
28. First novel you remember reading on your own?I don’t know- do Enid Blyton Mysteries and school stories count as novels? The first unabridged classic I read was Jane Eyre, when I was about ten.
29. Favorite TV shows?I don’t watch much TV. The only show I watch right now is So you think you can Dance (We are only in season 3 out here) .
30. Which LitNet members would you like to meet in person if you could?I haven’t really got to know anyone yet!

I like the Jane Eyre threads, and Threads like What is Literature? Favourite Novel, Least favourite Novel, etc. The discussions get pretty interesting.
33. Last food did you have? Bread and cheese and Coffee (my breakfast).
34. Last words you said out loud? “Are you coming back for lunch?” to my father who was going out.

My son, when he left for college this morning.
36. What do you do (for a living) to be able to keep your LitNet addiction going? And are you happy with your chosen profession?
I’m a housewife. I earn nothing.

Difficult question. There are so many cheesy ones. Ok, A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry, Yellow Submarine, Titanic.

It’s a long story!

My hair, or maybe my above average height.
42. If you could change one thing about the way you look, what would that be?
Nothing. After 46 years you get used to your face!

Harry Potter. I’d be a billionaire.

Sorry, can’t think of anything at the moment.
45. Most and least favorite characters from books?
Most favourites: Lucy Snowe, Jane Eyre, Don Quixote, Leopold Bloom, Severus Snape. Least favourite- Little Dorrit’s father.

47. What should you be doing at the moment instead of answering these questions?
Cleaning the house.
48. Wonderful Superman or depressing Batman?
Batman.
49. The most embarrassing moment in your life?
When the house is in a mess and some long forgotten acquaintance turns up.
50. Which literary character (s) have you been told to resemble the most?
No one’s told me. I’d say Don Quixote.
51. List some of the things that annoy you immensely.
Loud music, people who spit on the street, people who keep talking and boring you,…the list is endless!
52. Anything that you want to forget but you never can?
No, however bad the experience, I wouldn’t like to completely forget it.
53. Tell us about some amusing translation mistake you have heard or made yourself.
I’m not too good in Tamil, my mother tongue, and sometimes misunderstand words that sound similar, for which I get laughed at a lot. But I can’t really explain them here.
54. If you had to lose one of your senses, which would you choose and why? Definitely not sight, touch or smell. Hearing, it will have to be.
55. What’s the first thing you’ll do in an embarrassing situation?
Er…blush?
56. Are you mostly happy with life or are you still in pursuit?
I’m quite happy, though I often feel I ought to be in pursuit!
