NEW YORK -- Men's outerwear veterans have a saying: "I don't care about Christmas. I don't give a hoot about Thanksgiving and Columbus Day. Just give me cold, cold weather all winter long."

The right weather pattern finally fell into place. Retailers in many parts of the nation said men's outerwear sales began jumping last Friday and Saturday after a sustained breath of cool air blew through the country last week.
