Imagine author H.G. Wells traveling 100 years into the future and stepping into a modern movie theater.

After getting over his shock at the price of popcorn, he'd wander through the megaplex until he found "The Time Machine," a new adaptation of his seminal science-fiction novel.

I'm guessing he might be disappointed that his classic allegory about humanity's class struggles had mutated into a loud, sometimes one-dimensional action movie. But he'd almost certainly be blown away by the special effects, which have taken his visions to new heights ("Computer-generation, you say? Remarkable!"), ...
