A PRIZED first edition of the D H Lawrence classic Lady Chatterley's Lover, featuring vicious remarks from his literary enemy H G Wells, has been put on sale for pounds 12,500.
The book, signed by the author, is one of a limited edition of the controversial novel Lawrence printed in Florence to escape British censorship and sold to subscribers.
Although a fierce critic of some of Lawrence's work, Wells, who wrote The War of the Worlds and The Time Machine, obtained one of the first run of 1,000 copies.
