Hudson Theatre, New York, on West 44th Street, between Broadway and the Avenue of the Americas. This handsome and elegant playhouse opened in 1903 with Ethel Barrymore in H. H. Davies's Cousin Kate . Among its early successes were the first productions in New York of Shaw's Man and Superman (1905), Henry Arthur Jones's The Hypocrites (1906), and Somerset Maugham's Lady Frederick (1908).
