HAVING CONCLUDED last week by mentioning that Bram Stoker happened to be a race walker - disqualified after winning the five-mile walk at the Civil Service athletics championships in London in 1868 - here follows a little more of his sporting life to get your teeth into.
Stoker was actually a competitive walker of some note. He was never beaten by a rival, only by the judge who penalised him for "lifting", breaking contact with the ground, in that five-mile Civil Service race.
