America's most famous architect wished to build better for the common man.
Frank Lloyd Wright, whose homes adorn communities such as Oak Park and River Forest, believed beautiful architecture should not be only for the wealthy.
And that it should be distinctly American.
Wright in 1916 founded American System-Built Houses, offering about 100 designs at affordable prices. A home at 10541 S. Hoyne last week was determined to be a 1917 System-Built treasure.
Chicago novelist Sherwood Anderson was hired as the copy writer for Wright's venture and together they sold an ideal:
