WHILE it is lamentable and true that there is neither political conviction nor decency left in Philippine politics, it is consoling to note, and room for hope, that all 24 candidates for the Senate are not only academically qualified but also do not include among them any comedian or movie icon other than former Senator Tito Sotto.

Generally speaking, both lineups seem equally matched in terms of experience, maturity, bourgeois background, youth, and integrity that we can optimistically look forward to a better-quality Senate that will be ...
