University of Chicago political philosopher Allan Bloom is the recipient of the Jean Jacques Rousseau Prize for his acclaimed book on the failure of higher education in the United States.
Bloom's book, The Closing of the American Mind: How Higher Education Has Failed Democracy and Impoverished the Souls of Today's Students, currently is No. 3 on the New York Times nonfiction bestseller list. It portrays a decline in the quality of U.S. college students and their education.
