Discourse On Origins Of Inequality
Introduction:
This work was written in 1753 and was first published in 1755. Like the
first Discourse, it was written in competition for the annual prize awarded by
the Academy at Dijon. Unlike the first one, however, it took no prize. The
spirit and attitude of this essay were much like the first one: it condemned
contemporary social and political institutions as corrupters of natural man;
it still talked in terms of a state of nature; it advocated the superiority of
