Devin du village, Le ( The Village Soothsayer ). Opera in 1 act by Jean-Jacques Rousseau; text by the composer. Prem. Fontainebleau 18 Oct. 1752.

A French village, 18th cent. Colette (sop) learns that her beloved Colin (ten) has been unfaithful to her and seeks the aid of a Soothsayer (bar) who advises her to display utter indifference to Colin's advances. At the same time, the Soothsayer tells Colin that Colette has fallen in love with someone else. The trick works and the lovers are reunited.
