David Condon had a tough act to follow.

While in his 20s, Condon took over "In the Wake of the News," a sports column in another Chicago newspaper that had previously been written by Ring Lardner, Westbrook Pegler and Arch Ward, who are among the legends of American journalism. Condon's style was no less distinctive.
